My experience on being a field service technician so far: -One need to have high emotional intelligence because you deal with different people, with different emotions going through different things. I learn not to take things personally especially when you’re young, most people undermine you until you deliver. -Prepare a day before going on-site , so that you will know the equipment you’re going to work with, because clients see you as a specialist, often times they ask you lot of questions. Sometimes if you finish early they might request a few minutes training. -After visiting a client the following day don’t go on-site, finish all the paper work and report and send them on time. Clients will notice that you’re committed. -To those who want to be field service technicians, my advice is, you got to have passion for it because every day you learn new things, so you have to read manuals every chance you have. #Abb #Instrumentation #Field_service #engineering

As a Control Systems Technician in a process control environment, you always run the risk of interrupting production during plant maintenance. It is important to remain calm and respond quickly in emergency situations. Follow established emergency procedures, prioritize communication and work closely with your team to diagnose the issue and implement temporary measures to restore equipment functionality if possible. Once the immediate crisis is addressed, initiate a comprehensive investigation into the root cause. Finally focus on implementing long term solutions to prevent similar issues from reoccurring.

Tell me something, what is a Service Technician? Or rather, what does a Service Technician do? Someone asked me this question last week. Well, I will give my response in the simplest of terms, even a lay person can understand. Firstly, it depends on what trade you are in. You can be an electrical service technician or mechanical service technician. Or any other. As a mechanical service technician, I instal, I repair, I do maintenance, I also replace where necessary. What does that mean? Take a simple example of a washing machine in our house. If we want to make sure it is always running, we will have to do all the above (explained below). 1. To install is to put that machine where we want it to be. We need to ensure that all the water pipes are connected and the machine will not dance all over the show when it's rumbling. That calls for levelling it up and making it stable. Then connect to power. 2. Repair is what we are all used to. It simply means when it's not working you check and fix the problem. 3. Maintenance means avoiding the machine from dying 😁. Like after a while, you check if all the bolts are still intact. If there are any loose bolts you tighten them. Stopping the machine to clean it is part of maintenance. Painting your house after a few years is part of maintenance as well. 4. Replace. If it finally dies you look at me and say honey, what are we going to do now? And I will say let's get rid of it and buy another one babe! 😊 Replacing simply means not repairing or maintaining. WHAT MAKES YOU A GOOD AND EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL ELEVATOR TECHNICIAN To be a good and experienced electrical elevator technician, one should possess a combination of technical skills, knowledge, and personal attributes. Below are some qualities; 1. Understanding of electrical circuits, wiring, and systems specific to elevators. 2. Having the Knowledge of mechanical components, such as gears, pulleys, and brakes. 3. Ability to diagnose and repair issues efficiently. 4. Develop skills in installing new elevators and modernizing existing ones. 5. Willingness to work with different brands and models of elevators, as well as various settings (commercial, residential, industrial). 6. Strict adherence to safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents. 7.Ability to analyze problems and come up with effective solutions. Sometimes, innovative solutions are needed for complex issues. 8. Tech Savvy: Comfortable using modern diagnostic tools and software for elevator systems. Above all, what makes you standout is your communication skills. Which includes; Ability to communicate effectively with your team, employers and clients, explaining issues and solutions clearly.
