Animal Shelter Euthanasia’s in America are increasing exponentially. The number of Americas companion animals euthanized in shelters increased by 15% in 2023 and compared to 2022, and up 29% compared to 2021. The trend indicates that animal shelters in the U.S. are facing a perplexity and complexity of leadership challenges leading to overcrowding and increased intake and kill rates in America. www.greenPetsAmerica.org

Data highlights of this week in animal sheltering. First, Best Friends Animal Society released their 2023 annual report, which contains some really interesting insights. It's a rich report and well-worth reading: https://lnkd.in/gptWs7aZ Second, Shelter Animals Count showed despite popular beliefs, July 5 is NOT the highest intake day of the year, it's the third. Any guesses as to the busiest intake day for US shelters?

Help Ventura County's Animals Find Loving Homes Hey everyone, I just came across an important update from Ventura County Animal Services that I had to share. Right now, they’re offering **fee-waived adoptions for all available animals** through **Saturday, November 30th**. This is an effort to make space for critical cases, and it’s such a worthwhile cause. If you’ve been thinking about adopting a new furry family member, this is the perfect opportunity to do something meaningful for these animals—and for yourself. Why It’s Worthwhile Bringing a pet into your home is life-changing. While there are costs to caring for pets, when you break it down, they’re manageable—and the benefits are priceless: - Dogs: On average, it costs $1,000–$1,500 per year to care for a dog. That’s about $2.75 to $4.10 per day. - Cats: The average cost for a cat is $800–$1,200 per year, or about **$2.20 to $3.30 per day**. For the cost of a cup of coffee or a snack, you can have unconditional love, companionship, and improved mental and physical health every single day. It's a great reason to give up that unhealthy Starbucks habit LOL! What You Can Do 1. Adopt if You Can: Visit [https://lnkd.in/gNXnay7s) to see the animals currently waiting for homes. 2. Spread the Word: If you can’t adopt, please share this post or the flyers from Ventura County Animal Services with your network. 3. Support the Cause: Consider volunteering or donating to help the shelter continue their life-saving work. Let’s help these animals find their forever homes! Together, we can make space for those who need emergency care and show how much our community values compassion and kindness. Thank you for reading—and for caring. 💕🐾 - Diego --- This breakdown makes the cost relatable while emphasizing the emotional and physical benefits of adoption. Would you like to include any additional details or adjust the tone further?
Due to a high influx of animals arriving at VC Animal Services, Ventura County Animal Services will be offering fee-waived adoptions for all available animals in our care through Saturday, November 30th. Our hope is to create space for incoming critical cases. If you or someone you know has been considering adding a new fur-friend, please considering adopting. Preview animals at www.vcas.us/pets. View our full adoption process at www.vcas.us/adopt. Can’t adopt? Please share the attached bilingual flyers outlining this promotion.

🐱Happy Animal Day 🇦🇷! 🐶 We know that the commemorative day is every 4th October. However, in Argentina it is celebrated every 29th April and as animal lovers, we could not let this day pass without paying tribute to them. 💖 So, on this special day, we want to celebrate all the animals that surround us, from our furry pets to the most exotic creatures on the planet. 🐯🦊 Animals are incredible beings that enrich our lives in so many ways. They provide us with love, companionship, emotional support, and even teach us valuable life lessons. 🐾 It is our duty to protect them and ensure their well-being. 💕 What can we do to help animals? 🐾 Adopt a pet from a shelter. 🐾 Donate to organizations that work for animal welfare. 🐾 Volunteer our time at a shelter or rescue center. 🐾 Report animal abuse. 🐾 Choose products that are not tested on animals. 🐾 Educate others about the importance of animal protection. Together we can make the world a better place for all animals. By the way, we would like to introduce you to the four-legged Soul Ocean family 😻💕 . #NationalPetDay #AnimalProtection #AnimalLove #Pets #Biodiversity #Planet

🐾🌍Weekend Musings: Animals, Compassion, and Good words. 🤲🏽A friend of mine used to raise funds for animal welfare. She told me that it is a daunting task to get funding for abused and distressed animals, as human stories tend to receive more attention and support. Animal welfare holds a special place in my heart. I have worked with NGOs that focus on helping animals, but many of them face financial struggles. 🌟 I have come across a positive example that I find inspiring: Anant Ambani's Vantara. It is a world-class animal rescue and rehabilitation center. I have watched videos of the center's work multiple times, and it gives me comfort to know that there are people like him who have the resources and are deeply passionate about this cause." 📽️Video link: https://lnkd.in/gHMNSm3J 🕊️Mahatma Gandhi said: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that the more helpless a creature the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of humankind". 🌍In a world where we can be anything, let's be kind. 🗨️Quote of the week: "The secret, Alice, is to surround yourself with people who make your heart smile" 💖If you find these people, hold them closer to your heart. #compassion #kindness #compassionatecare #animalrescue #animalwelfare #weekendvibes #weekendmotivation #musings

With about 4,000 animal shelters nationwide, adoption is a wonderful way to give these animals another chance. The number of animals entering shelters annually has decreased since 2011, with the number of dogs decreasing most significantly, from an average of 3.9 million in 2011 to 3.1 million in 2019. Jan 23, 2024. Of this approximate number of shelters, 56% are classified as NO KILL shelters, defined as humane sanctuaries that qualify as a 90% save rate.

ICYMI. The ARL took in 46 MORE dogs from the SAME commercial breeder we rescued nearly 100 dogs from last fall. As a community, we have to ask more questions. 👉🏼Why does this continue to happen? 👉🏼Why was this licensed commercial breeder allowed the opportunity to reoffend? 👉🏼What changes need to be made from the agencies who oversee licensed breeders on the inspection/licensing process so this doesn’t continue to happen? 👉🏼How do we ensure commercial breeders are giving adequate care, physically and mentally, to the animals under their supervision? 👉🏼How many more animals have to suffer before changes are made? Now is a great time to sign up to receive Action Alerts from the ARL’s Humane Action Network so you can be alerted to when YOU can take action to help strengthen animal welfare in Iowa. Sign up at ARL-Iowa.org/HAN, and be sure to like the ARL Humane Action Network Facebook page to stay in the know about animal issues in Iowa and beyond. https://lnkd.in/g69C7bvg
