Roll up, roll up, glimpse of the future right here, smart shopping trolleys have arrived! This new technology from the Instacart Caper Cart, is delivering AI-powered innovation to transform grocery shopping into a fun, personalised experience that enables shoppers to stay on budget, check out quickly, and easily discover deals and products that will inspire them in the grocery aisles. Caper Carts are equipped with AI, cameras, sensors, and a built-in scale, which work together to automatically recognise items as they are added to the trolley The digital screen enables customers to view their running total, see personalised discounts, and receive money off their spend through gamified experiences. And most interesting, where it’s currently being tested by retail chains like Kroger in the US, they’re finding customers are seeking out the stores with the trolleys - what a great way to gain competitive advantage. I think this could be, if adopted a very good tool. The gamification element is entertaining and 'addictive' if it becomes a habit. Then, personalisation and custom offers in real time is a huge benefit. This could drive user sign-ups to then be used in marketing strategies etc etc.

TBH I'm more excited by the absence of plastic in the fruit and veg section. That alone would be a future I'd love to see before we get into fancy smart trolleys!

Concept looks good, but you’ll guarantee that One item will cause issue to which (ironically) a human will be needed, to assist and finalise the sale transaction which will evidently annoy the hell out of me.

Can I set it to do my shop with a list and have a comfy coffee whilst it does the rounds? That would be progress … expecting too much?

We love this, what a brilliant way to drive footfall and then send offers to customers relevant to where they are in the store!

I saw smart trolleys at RTS earlier this year and fell in love them! I think they are a fantastic idea, with loads of benefits to both the shopper and the retailer!
