Regardless of your political bend, it will be interesting (and hopefully good) to see how this initiative plays out - especially for those of us who produce food products. Maybe, just maybe, the public will finally wake up to the illusion of bogus governmental ‘organic’ labels as being the only option (racket) in town. Maybe, just maybe, the door will finally open for grassroots honesty between producers and consumers. Maybe, just maybe, the public will finally be ready for more easily accessible options like www.GoodFaithGrown.com

[MEAT-SOUNDING ON PLANT-BASED PRODUCTS: THE IOWA SOLUTION] We all know that the French highest administrative court, the Conseil d'État, has suspended the 2024 decree banning the use of typical meat product names for plant based alternatives - a similar 2022 decree was also suspended and submitted to the EU Court of Justice (pending case). A copy-paste legislation has also been enacted in Italy. We would like to draw your attention to the solution proposed by the legislator in Iowa (United States of America). According to the bill recently passed unanimously by the Iowa Senate (Senate File 2391), there are fines for the use of imitation meat products (e.g., those derived from plants, insects or cultured/cultivated meat) that are generally associated with an "identifying meat term" (e.g., cow, chicken, meat, beef, wing, etc.), unless, and herein lies the interesting part, there is also a conspicuous "qualifying term" (e.g., fake, imitation, vegetarian, cell-cultivated, cell-cultured, grown in a lab, etc.) in close proximity to that identifying meat term. I think this could be a legally sound and well-accepted solution in the EU as well and the new EU Commission should propose it as soon as possible to avoid natianal bans. #France #cultivatedmeat #plantbased #veggie #veg #alternativeproteins #meatsounding #ban #foodlaw #food #Iowa #USA #EU

This is a continuation of last week’s issue, because we’ve now published three more stories from our investigation into the representation of farmers. Last week, I shared the findings from France. This week, I’m sharing the findings from Germany, Italy, and Poland. In Germany, the findings by Taz on the outcomes of Zukunftskommission Landwirtschaft (ZKL) raise serious concerns about the ongoing “Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU Agriculture” in Brussels, which is modelled after the ZKL. In Italy, L'Espresso looked into the links the dominant farm union has with both policymakers and one of Italy’s biggest agricultural companies. The Europeans podcast unpack the protests in Poland and some coopted the struggles and valid concerns Polish farmers have, with insights from other parts of Europe. https://lnkd.in/dSWJMg42

Did You Know: The Oxford Comma Can Cost Millions? Commas truly matter! In 1988, a missing Oxford comma in a lobster contract led to a $11 million lawsuit between a Maine processing plant and a food supplier. The dispute centered on whether the comma separated "packing materials" from "certain lobster meat" included in the contract. Without the comma, the plant argued they could keep some of the processed lobster meat. This case highlights the importance of precise language in financial communication. A single missing comma can have significant legal and financial consequences. #DidYouKnow #ApexCoVantage

This Wednesday, the European Parliament adopted its proposals to better prevent and reduce food waste across the EU, including binding reduction targets by 2030. For retail the Commission had earlier proposed 30%, the Parliament now proposes 40% . So proud that with our German "Dialogforum Groß- und Einzelhandel zur Reduzierung von #Lebensmittelverschwendung" we managed to prepare a pact against #foodwaste signed by 14 retail and wholesale companies in line with the ambitious SDG target 12.3 of a 50% reduction by 2030! Thanks again to all involved - show them that it is possible and lead by example! And: Looking forward to support the "promotion of fruits and vegetables with external defects" but still safe for human consumption requested by the EP with our #eufunded #BREADCRUMBproject. https://lnkd.in/egT4a4Aa #foodchainsolutions, #foodmarketingstandards , #foodchainsolutions, #suboptimalfood, #socialacceptance, #horizoneurope, #EUresearch

California has just passed a bill to the governor’s desk that would ban six artificial dyes purportedly linked to behavioural issues in children from public school foods, specifically red dye No. 40, yellow dyes Nos. 5 and 6, blue dyes Nos. 1 and 2, and green dye No. 3. The bill shall come into effect on December 31, 2027. This move will likely result in greater scrutiny being put on the use of these dyes in a wide range of food products targeted to children, leaving a gap in the innovation space for novel food colours. There have been exciting developments in the area of fermented products in the past few years that may be key for addressing this gap. At Intertek, we can support in providing regulatory and scientific advice during the R&D phase of novel food colour development. If you voted for this government, please be aware of the impact your choice has, especially with the GOP's policies affecting everyone's life, including our food. Currently, a crisis is unfolding in the cattle industry, crucial for our meat supply. Four large corporations, with significant foreign ownership, Chinese and Brazil - the 4 now control 85% of this sector, threatening local ranchers' survival and our access to quality meat. You do understand they are not American companies right? This situation serves as a critical call to action for all who value local farming, the integrity of our food systems, and the broader implications of our voting decisions. The intertwining of political influence and the control of essential industries highlights a pivotal issue that demands our attention and action. Spread the word and stand in solidarity with those who advocate for not just the sustainability of our food sources but also the pivotal role in the sustenance and future of humanity.

1moI hope it works out but I’m very skeptical that Donald Trump is willing to regulate big pharmaceutical companies and food producers, especially since he is a well-known mass consumer of fast food and is a notoriously unhealthy eater.
