ICYMI - we ran a story over the weekend looking at the geopolitical challenges facing Malaysia as it seeks to leverage on "the best from the West" and "the best from the East" in its 5G rollout to bolster its ambitious plan to scale up the global tech pyramid and achieve high income nation status by 2030. The complications surround the potential entry of Chinese communications technology giant Huawei into Malaysia's 5G infrastructure, something that Western powers have warned could undermine the Southeast Asian nation's tech ambitions and national security. But with anything and everything linked to the US-China trade and tech war, the perceived threats and potential consequences continue to float in the realm of what is possible, as both superpowers compete to grow their influence in the world's new growth area of Southeast Asia. My deepest thanks to Farlina Said of Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, Alan Chong with the RSIS | S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Control Risks' Harrison Cheng and Gatra Priyandita, PhD of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute for sharing their valuable insights for the story. https://lnkd.in/gsCUcTE5

Japan has shattered the world record for the fastest internet speed, achieving an astonishing 319 terabytes per second (Tb/s). This breakthrough was accomplished by a research team at Japan's National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT). To put this incredible speed into perspective, consider this: with 319 Tb/s, you could download 50,000 full-length movies in just one second. That's equivalent to the entire Netflix catalog! This record-breaking feat was achieved using advanced fiber-optic technology and innovative signal processing techniques. The NICT team's achievement has significant implications for the future of high-speed data transmission. As the world moves towards increasingly data-intensive technologies, Japan's achievement paves the way for faster, more reliable, and efficient global connectivity. . . . #JapanBreaksInternetRecord #FastestInternet #319Terabytes #FutureOfConnectivity #HighSpeedInternet #tribunetrends
