We design furnishings and solutions for the many places where work happens. The emissions from manufacturing these products make up the largest share of our overall carbon footprint. Our path to net zero requires increased measurement, transparency and the ability to scale sustainable product design across our organization. #netzero #productdesign

I saw this quote written on the window of Paustian A/S in Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign, and think it sums up perfectly how we should approach sustainability - as a whole business, with longevity in mind. It takes an eye for design. Knowledge of materials. Concern for the environment. A love for furniture that can be used for generations. It takes respect for tradition. And the courage to think differently. #sustainability #manufacturing #designthinking

Insights from this year's Funiture & Interior design conference in Birk, Herning. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a seminar that provided a fascinating deep dive into the possibilities and challenges shaping the future of the furniture industry. One of the key takeaways was the incredible resilience and innovation many businesses are demonstrating as they navigate an ever-changing market landscape. From embracing circular economy principles to adapting to shifts in consumer preferences, the industry is proving its ability to evolve. A major focus of the discussions was on the evolving EU legislation aimed at sustainability, safety, and transparency. These regulations present both challenges and opportunities for the sector: Challenges: Adapting to stricter sustainability requirements will undoubtedly test supply chains, production processes, and cost structures. For smaller businesses, this could be especially daunting. Opportunities: Forward-thinking companies are already seizing this moment to innovate. Whether it’s developing new materials, rethinking product lifecycles, or enhancing compliance processes, these changes open doors for differentiation and long-term growth. What truly inspired me was hearing about how some companies are proactively staying ahead of the curve. Collaboration across the value chain, investment in R&D, and a strong commitment to sustainability seem to be the keys to thriving in this dynamic environment. As we look ahead, it’s clear that staying informed and adaptable will be crucial. This seminar reinforced how important it is for all of us in the industry to share knowledge, collaborate, and embrace innovation. What are your thoughts on navigating these challenges? How is your organization preparing for these changes? Let’s keep the conversation going! All the best, Vagn Jakobsen #FurnitureIndustry #Sustainability #Innovation #EURegulations #BusinessAdaptation
