'Zero energy' hotel! Sustainability tourism is gaining traction in Singapore and globally. As more tourists today embrace responsible travelling, it is inevitable that the hospitality industry needs to integrate the philosophy and practice of sustainability into their properties to attract this growing segment of tourists. This will be a key attribute that many hotels will build into their brand identity.
Particularly in Singapore, as more hotels intergrate sustainability practices and features into their development, it will reinforce Singapore as a sustainable tourism destination as well. Furthermore, with Hotel Indigo located at Changi Airport, it is definitely sending a strong signal that Singapore is indeed a sustainable tourism destination.
Although Hotel Indigo's new development may come across as a novelty, in time to come, sustainable hotels such as this will soon become a norm. What do you think?

Vietnam's resort real estate market continues to attract international investors, but persistent regulatory and procedural hurdles remain an obstacle. As a result, investors increasingly seek existing, operational assets, particularly high-quality hotels and resorts in central urban hubs like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
However, as Mauro Gasparotti, Director of Savills Hotels, notes, such assets are scarce.
Despite these challenges, international hotel brands have steadily expanded their presence in Vietnam, increasing from under 50 branded hotels in 2013 to nearly 200 today. Hanoi's market alone will see seven new international projects in 2024, adding 1,177 rooms. Hilton and Fusion are the most notable new entrants, according to a recent Savills report.

Pattaya will get its first luxury all-inclusive hotel, Paradisus, a brand owned by Meliá Hotels International. This will also be the first Paradisus resort in Asia.
Wonderful to see that Asset World Corporation , one of Thailand's prolific hospitality developers, is trying out new things and new brands.
I didn't know anything about Paradisus until now. I like its brand expression: “The destination is now included.” It's the brand's promise that every Paradisus resort is shaped by its location and brings the destination to guests with a curated range of activities inside and outside the hotel, in a setting that's harmonious with the local landscape, all at no extra cost.
That should soften a misgiving about all-inclusive, ie, it keeps the money within the house, without benefiting local enterprises much. I think reliable chains are even more mindful of this now, given consumer trends such as go-local and sustainability, which includes tourism's function as supporting local livelihoods. The Paradisus in Pattaya will be located in Jomtien. A new Melia hotel will also rise in Pattaya, located in AWC's mixed-use attraction, Aquatique, that will open in December. Paradisus will open in 2028. Interestingly, the resort is huge, with nearly 700 keys, and aims to attract domestic and international meetings to fill up those rooms. And I thought luxury all-inclusive is mostly for leisure travelers.
Pattaya has improved tremendously over the years. New attractions such as Aquatique and the all-inclusive offering will increase its appeal further.

Bali Hotels Outperforming Industry Trends: A Strong Case for the Island's Hotel Sector
Recent discussions in the media suggest a trend where tourists in Bali are increasingly opting for villas and budget accommodations over traditional hotels. However, a closer look at the data reveals that the island's hotel sector, particularly among Bali Hotels Association (BHA) members, remains robust and continues to attract a substantial number of visitors.
Visitor Statistics and Hotel Performance
International tourism arrivals to Bali in the first half of 2024 fully recovered from the dramatic effects of Covid-19 coming in just shy of 2.9 million, up nearly 25% over 2023 and up a whisker over the first half of 2019 at 2.856 million. Not only have Bali hotels recovered, they have shone, outstripping forecasts with exceptional increases in average room rate whilst maintaining very high occupancy. BHA hotels' occupancy YTD June 2024 was 71%, 4 percentage points higher YOY and nearly 5 points higher than 2019 performance. At the same time the hotels recorded exceptional growth in average daily rate (ADR) up 10% YOY and a staggering 47% over the ADR recorded YTD June 2019. This led to revenue per available room (RevPAR, occupancy x ADR) increases of 17% YOY and a breathtaking 57% over 2019. Not only are Bali visitors choosing hotels, they are now appreciating the quality of services and amenities offered by hotels over other forms of accommodation and are willing to pay a lot more.
BHA's member hotels are not just maintaining but also enhancing their appeal through innovative offerings and adherence to high standards in service, safety, security, and sustainability practices.
Spending Trends and Economic Impact
The association's hotels, known for their quality and comprehensive services, continue to attract high-spending visitors, ensuring a steady flow of revenue into Bali's economy.
Comparative Insights and Future Outlook
BHA member hotels have shown resilience and adaptability. The association's emphasis on sustainable tourism, community engagement, and continuous improvement in service quality positions them strongly in the market. The expected continued growth in international arrivals, bolstered by increased flights and promotional activities, suggests a promising future for Bali's hotel sector.
In conclusion, while the villa and budget accommodation sectors are indeed growing, the strength and performance of BHA member hotels demonstrate that the traditional hotel sector in Bali remains a vital and thriving component of the island's tourism industry. The positive trends in visitor numbers and the high standards maintained by these hotels underscore their continued relevance and appeal in a competitive market.
