Statistics say a lot about the challenges of home affordability in the Midwest. “1 in 9 households in Wisconsin spend half or more of their income on housing,” reported Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity in their 2023 annual report. “There is a shortage of over 126,000 affordable rentals available for extremely low-income families in Wisconsin.” To help mitigate this crisis in the community they serve, local Malarkey Certified Residential Contractor, American Quality Homes, donated their time and labor for the installation of a new roof on a new home built by Habitat for Humanity. With assistance from Northeast Wisconsin Malarkey Sales Representative Maximilian Crookston, a complete system of roofing products was donated in the fall of 2023. For the least stressful experience, tackle one room at a time. If you're on two floors, start on the 2nd floor where you spend the least amount of time and work your way down. Schedule estate and garage sales. Make sure that if you are publicly listing items, use caution and always be safe. Separate items into piles and label all boxes accordingly. Donating items to local nonprofits that serve the community, and trash items you don't want to take into your next home that won't be someone else's treasure.

When starting a project, typically your plan is to make it to the finish line and leave the space better then how it started! But plans are made to be changed, right?? Getting your space back into shape means letting go of things that no longer serve you for one reason or another. At the end of every project you are left with a completed space that brings you joy + happiness and a corner filled with discarded items. Consider making one more change to your plan and separating your trash and donation. Your unwantables can go on to serve others in need, rather than in a landfill.
