🌟 Tough days happen, especially in healthcare. How do we bounce back? Healthcare pros know that some days are harder than others. Dealing with loss in care homes can take a toll. So, what can workplaces do to support their staff during these times? 👉 First, it's all about listening. Sometimes, a simple, genuine "How are you doing?" can mean the world. Creating a space where staff can talk openly about their experiences helps. 👉 Next, consider debrief sessions. These aren't just meetings; they're lifelines for sharing and learning from each day's challenges. 👉 Mental health support is key. Access to counseling services or wellness programs can provide the much-needed respite for our caregivers. 👉 Recognition matters. Acknowledging the hard work and emotional load can boost morale. A simple thank you, a note, or a small gathering can go a long way. 👉 Flexibility is crucial. After a tough shift, offering flexible scheduling or a day off can help staff recover and return stronger. 👉 Lastly, training on coping strategies. Equip your team with the tools to manage stress and emotional fatigue. At Newton Healthcare, we're not just a team; we're a family that cares deeply. We're committed to supporting our staff through every high and low because we believe in our values of honesty, courage, and inclusion. 💬 How does your workplace support you after a challenging day? https://lnkd.in/e2yHrE3W Our last post was about differentiating between burnout and depression. This post, we, again, turn to the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation to highlight their Caring for Caregivers (C4C) learning communities. C4C is described as: "Caring for Caregivers (C4C) builds learning communities to assist healthcare organizations, such as hospitals and medical groups, in improving workplace policies and practices that reduce burnout, normalize help-seeking, and strengthen professional wellbeing—accelerating impact to improve health workers’ wellbeing and mental health." The Foundation describes their three phased, systemic approach which integrates well-being into operations and organizational processes, while also breaking down barriers for help seeking. In our work with our healthcare clients, we saw the deep, ingrained culture of exclusively focusing on others and neglecting self care during a both/and- polarity thinking facilitation. When healthcare leaders had to stand in the quadrant of focusing on self in a healthy way, their bodies told them to run away. A patient care leader even voiced: "I don't want people to see me as selfish." Would you like to learn how you can compassionately and courageously support your teams in this three phased approach to improve wellbeing? 🌟 Making Waves in Mental Health Care 🌟 Recent headlines have once again cast a shadow over the effectiveness and integrity of traditional Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). It's no surprise that the BBC has uncovered barriers erected to protect profit margins rather than prioritize employee well-being. But when will the market wake up to the reality behind the claims of "unlimited" or "16 free sessions per person per year for all employees"? It's a facade, leaving employees to suffer the consequences. The recent revelations from the Health Assured case serve as confirmation that this space is in dire need of a thorough overhaul. According to internal communications unearthed by BBC File on 4, counselors were apparently instructed to keep calls under 19 minutes and refer just 18% of callers to therapy. This practice severely limits access to essential mental health services, leaving countless individuals in distress. Imagine signing up for a job with the intention of helping people access support, only to find yourself actively obstructing their path to care. It's disheartening, to say the least. In light of these revelations, it's clear that the term 'care navigator' can sometimes be synonymous with 'gatekeeper'—directing individuals toward self-help resources or AI bots instead of genuine therapeutic support. It's a convoluted landscape indeed. At Kara Connect , we're rewriting the script on mental health support. Our Wellbeing Hub offers constant access to direct services without the need to navigate through managers or HR services. There's no triaging, no gatekeepers—just accredited professionals dedicated to providing a minimum of 50 minutes of uninterrupted care. And if there's not a perfect fit, our professionals will ensure clients are referred to the right specialist. We take harm assessment seriously, with an emergency system in place to address any immediate risks. With Kara Connect, there's no compromise on quality. Our service fee remains intact, and we even provide a free workstation for seamless integration. Together, let's move toward a future where mental health care is truly accessible and supportive for all. Join us in shaping a brighter, healthier tomorrow. #MentalHealthMatters #EmployeeWellbeing #KaraConnectDifference
