#Time #Agile #PostAgile Imagine a ... say doctor/surgeon/ER member who works continuously for 30 hours because he has to, he's saving lives. That 30 hours of continuous work is very different from 30 hours of discretized work. To such a professional, giving money in compensation for time is not the same as giving back time to the professional. Giving back time to the professional requires having more doctors/surgeons/ER members of his caliber and stamina and capabilities. Its a good idea to give and save and bank time. Really is.

This summer, I am challenging myself (and I need your help!) 🧗♂️ … to step away from my laptop screen and immerse myself in the vibrant community of Bairro do Talude, Portugal 🇵🇹 Here, among families from Cape Verde, cultural diversity and resilience flourish, shaping a dynamic environment where cultural identity is constantly evolving into "new cultural elaborations." I believe deeply in the power of spaces to hold memories and stories of the people who inhabit them, which are worth exploring 🔍 . With this project, I would be guiding residents in documenting the sounds, textures, smells, and other artefacts that define their living spaces 🏡 . These elements will be later on digitalized and transformed, providing the community with tools to collectively reinterpret them, bridging the formal and informal aspects of their lives. 🔵 You may wonder, why is this project so significant?  And I will tell you … simply because it is about amplifying the voices of a community and honouring the beauty of their shared cultural heritage on their own “terms and conditions”. By providing community members with the space and the tools to capture and preserve their narratives, we can all celebrate their uniqueness and contribute to a more inclusive cultural narrative. 🤝 How can you help? At the I.I.M.U.N. Championship 2024, we had the privilege of hearing from Anand Satyanand, former Governor-General of New Zealand, Rosalia Arteaga, former President of Ecuador, and Rosa Otunbayeva, former President of Kyrgyzstan, in a segment moderated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor where they engaged in a discussion on building a roadmap to promote the concept of a global village. Here are a few key lessons we learned during the session: 1. Communication has globalized the world: With the advancement of technology, communication has broken down barriers, connecting people across continents in real-time. This interconnectedness has made the world smaller, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, collaboration, and shared progress. 2. We should strive to live in peace and harmony: A peaceful and harmonious life fosters mutual respect and understanding, reducing conflicts in society. Embracing peace within and around us helps build stronger, more compassionate communities. 3. Educate, agitate, organize: Knowledge empowers individuals to question injustices and take action. By learning, raising awareness, and organizing efforts, people can create meaningful social change. 4. Show respect to everyone: Respecting others, regardless of background or beliefs, fosters inclusivity and empathy. It forms the foundation of healthy relationships and promotes unity in diversity. 5. Social media fosters a sense of a global community: Social media bridges distances, enabling individuals to share experiences and ideas instantly. This constant connectivity creates a digital global village, where borders blur, and communities unite over common interests.

Public London: Activating the City is a free temporary exhibition on display at the London Centre, curated by the NLA. It showcases everything that is wonderful and challenging about public realm activation. Hassell has a few local and global projects featured as inspiration. In June, I was invited to speak at the launch symposium alongside Neal Shah (Greystar), David Fearon (AtkinsRéalis), Manijeh Verghese, and Ruchi Chakravarty. The event also included valuable insights from Samantha Jade (Saff) Williams, Sarah Castle, Clarisse Tavin, and Synthia Griffin. One of my key takeaways from the discussion was the importance of gathering evidence before, during, and after installing a temporary intervention. By consistently measuring both qualitative and quantitative indicators, short-term projects can significantly influence long-term outcomes. Moreover, it is crucial to approach an activation project with a clear purpose. What are you testing or prompting with a temporary public experience that cannot be achieved otherwise?
