Imagining the future. Talking about what matters most when our health changes can be challenging. Imagining how our needs may evolve is difficult, but simple visuals can help open these conversations. They can bridge understanding, ease fears, and make discussions that might otherwise feel overwhelming more approachable. Palliative care experts, Dr. Kirsty Boyd and Rebecca Patterson wanted to make these conversations easier, so we worked together to create a video with clear, accessible visuals that support future care planning. After testing and refining with real audiences, the final video—funded by Marie Curie—is now available on NHS Inform, reaching people across Scotland. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/e7fiDjH6 “We wanted accessible visuals to help people across Scotland know what anticipatory care planning (ACP) can do to help them and their families. Hazel understood the key concepts right away and worked quickly and effectively to produce an excellent resource that is now on Scotland’s public information site. This project has exceeded our expectations and I’m sure the video will have a big impact.” — Dr. Kirsty Boyd, Reader in Palliative Care, Usher Institute, The University of Edinburgh #VisualCommunication #HealthConversations #FutureCarePlanning #Scotland #MarieCurie

At Hospice Cape Breton, part of the Nova Scotia Health palliative care network, compassionate care goes beyond medical treatment - it’s about honouring the unique stories and preferences of each individual. This is why Lisa McNeil-Campbell, CVA and the broader team introduced a simple, yet impactful tool designed to gather meaningful details about individual likes, dislikes and sources of joy. Our Chief Medical Officer, Daniel J. Durand, took the stage at #HLTH2024 to discuss the future of longevity on a powerhouse panel, ‘Our Longevity Obsession.’ Moderated by Debra Richman, Dr. Durand joined experts like Gil Blander (InsideTracker), Alina Rui Su (Generation Lab), and Pita Navarro (Evvy) to dive into how biotech and personalized healthcare are reshaping the way we age. Exciting Momentum in the Fight Against Dementia We are at a pivotal moment in our collective journey to combat Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It's heartening to see the recent increase in funding for research in this critical area—a testament to the global recognition of the urgent need to address and improve the many aspects of dementia-related challenges. This surge in support not only fuels innovation and advances in treatment but also amplifies the importance of early detection and intervention. At Cognes Medical Solutions, we are inspired by this momentum. Our commitment to developing groundbreaking technologies, like our SaaS screening solution Cognes, is more invigorated than ever. These tools aim to leverage machine learning to detect early signs of dementia through digital biomarkers in facial features, offering hope for earlier and more precise prognoses. We extend our deepest gratitude to the research community, funding partners, and everyone dedicated to this cause. Together, we are paving the way for a future where dementia can be identified and addressed more effectively, improving the quality of life for individuals and their families worldwide. Let’s continue to support and celebrate these advancements. The path forward is bright, and your engagement and support are vital to transforming the landscape of dementia care and research. #DementiaResearch #Innovation #MachineLearning #MedTech #HealthcareInnovation
Big news! 🎉 Congress has announced a $100M increase for Alzheimer’s and dementia research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for fiscal year 2024! This includes $34M to fund the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act, which strengthens the Alzheimer’s public health infrastructure in communities across the nation. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who have advocated for these increases and to our bipartisan congressional champions for their support and commitment. 💜 Together, we’re empowering our communities, accelerating research and improving dementia care.

Human Experience Week recognises and celebrates that the experiences of our patients, their families and carers cannot be separated from the experiences of our caregivers (staff and volunteers). The theme for 2024, Innovate to Elevate, focuses on the importance of amplifying voices to inspire hope and making the important shift from surviving to thriving by removing the pebbles in our shoes. At NSW Health, we know that the exceptional patient experience is more than receiving excellent clinical care. How that care is delivered and how it makes us feel is just as important. Learn more about how NSW Health is transforming patient experience: https://lnkd.in/ggsgEZuH
