This month we are featuring The B+ Foundation at Alabama co-president Keeley Kimball. Keep reading to learn more about Keeley’s involvement and her dedication to the cause on The University of Alabama campus 🎗️ Q: What inspired you to get involved with UA B+? A: When I came to the University of Alabama I knew I wanted to be a part of something bigger that would give back to others and make a difference in the local Tuscaloosa community. Once I heard Joe McDonough speak during my freshmen year, I knew that The B+ Foundation was something I wanted to be more involved with. 🌟 Q: What is your best fundraising tip? A: My best fundraising tip would be to use the pre-written templates B+ provides but customize them to make them more personal when sending fundraising emails and texts. I have found that my donors like reading something more personalized. 🌟 Q: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned from your involvement with B+? A: The greatest lesson I have learned is to always persevere. Not everything will go as planned, but the best way to move forward is to keep going and remember why we do what we do. 🌟 Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get more involved with B+? A: My best advice would be to put yourself out there and get involved because it will be one of the best decisions you will make during college. Having something to dedicate your time to that gives back is substantial during your college years.

Folks in my network at US Nonprofits: are you familiar with Candid's Foundation Directory? It's an awesome tool that makes it easy to find grants that you'll actually have a chance at getting awarded. Check out the brief video below. #nonprofits #fundraising #grants

This is a very good idea: The non-partisan fantasy football of politics! A scorecard that gamifies in a simple, consumable way who among our representatives shows "building" vs "dividing" behaviors. The score is based on the last 14 days of activity, and takes into account Policy Discussion (+); Constructive Debate (+); Personal Attacks (-); Legislative Efficacy (+), with more value awarded for legislation passed with a winning coalition. Of course this is a simple model - but it creates the right conversation - and hopefully the right incentives. If anyone has other ideas for the factors that should be included in this, please message me and I'll pass them to the team working this. I personally would love if this barometer gets wide adoption... it may add some motivation for those legislators trying to actually solve complex issues - and inform people to vote for them, and give pause to those other legislators who seem to believe polarization is their only tool to be re-elected. Thanks Starts With Us (Builders movement) Polarization Research Lab Andrew Yang Kara Swisher and Karl Rove for the work on this. Thanks Daniel Lubetzky for continuing to inspire this movement.
CONGRESS RANKED: Who are the top problem solvers and dividers for the week of Oct. 8? Our newly launched Builders Power Rankings just dropped — your weekly guide to the top movers in Congress. We rank every member based on their recent actions, scoring them as either Builders (driving solutions) or Dividers (causing division). Check back each week to see who’s rising, who’s falling, and what our experts have to say. Builders Power Rankings is an educational program of Builders Network, Inc., a nonpartisan nonprofit. Builders does not endorse or oppose any politician or political party.

Please Nominate Page Ahead to win $10,000! My organization, Page Ahead, is in the running to win $10,000 from First Tech Federal Credit Union, and your vote can make it happen. This funding would go directly toward helping children build the literacy skills they need to succeed in school and in life. Since joining this incredible team, I’ve learned some profound truths about literacy and its impact: --Children in low-income groups who can't read are at a significant disadvantage in closing the earning and wealth gaps in our country. --By age 4, vital neuron connections form that lay the foundation for a child's reading and learning abilities. Missing this window has lifelong consequences for academic and professional success. --Children who aren’t reading proficiently by third grade often struggle to catch up in every subject through middle and high school. This is why the work we do is so critical—and why this $10,000 would mean the world to the children and families we serve. ✅ Please take a moment to vote for us here: https://lnkd.in/gKGkS_-y (No personal information is collected). 📢 And help us spread the word by sharing this post! Thank you for your support! 💙

Are you missing out on 💰 because you’re afraid of hearing “no”? So many fundraisers are SO nervous about getting a no that they will do anything to try to avoid them. 🫥 Massive amounts of research that nobody ever looks at 🫥 Never set an actual time to meet 🫥 Going on a bazillion site visits 🫥 Complaining that the board isn’t setting up meetings for them 🫥 Tweaking the annual report and donor page All of these are just different ways of procrastinating. Fundraising is just a math problem. Asks - no’s = yes’s The more asks you put out, the more no’s you're going to get AND the more yes’s you're going to get 👏 So my challenge for you this week is to replace at least one of your procrastinating tasks (you know which ones they are 🫣) with an ask.

Eight weeks left in the fiscal year. How will you spend them? For many fundraisers in education, another finish line is just ahead. It’s board meeting season, it’s once again May-of-a-Million-Events, and it is commencement time—or it will be soon. Maybe you’ve met your individual or team annual new activity goal. Mega congrats! This is a wonderful time to have meaningful conversations with your institution’s supporters and friends. For some, this may be the only time of the year when you’re released from the transactional fundraising that we’d all like to avoid. Can you take this opportunity to: ✅ Ask your top supporters for guidance on a new initiative you’re considering for the coming year ✅ Meet individually with a sub-set of board members regarding an unexpected change ✅ Congratulate your donor on their newly announced gift to another organization and ask to hear the long version of the story ✅ Send flowers to mark a cherished alumni volunteer’s birthday ✅ Host a special meal to celebrate a business milestone for one of your partners ✅ Ask the quietest member of a parent task force to have a special call to run through key decisions Do you have a go-to approach for your frontline activity in May and June?

Today is the LAST day to apply for my 6-week fundraising boot camp For those of you on the edge, here's 5 things you should know: 1. There are 10 live sessions total with 2 each week. These are mainly reserved for live exercises, industry experts/VC guests, and Q&A time 2. There are 5+ hours of pre-recorded content you will move through. I always recommend founders get ahead so that they can apply what they've learned in the live sessions 3. There's a decent amount of homework assignments. I don't do this to be mean, I do this cause my course is NOT edutainment. It's designed so that when you finish the program you will have at least 90% of your fundraising prep done. 4. When the course is over, you still get access to the materials. You also keep your access to the community for 6+ months where we have legal office hours, pitch practice, deck review and more, all for free 5. You will get an in-depth deck review as part of your purchase. This is a huge value add considering they take time and usually cost hundreds Did I miss anything important? For those of you on the edge, let me know if you have any other questions. Looking forward to starting FWC10 next week😎 apply down below!

Nonprofits don't have a lot of resources. Budgets are tight. This week, I'll share some free resources to help. Reach out to your local community foundation. Council on Foundations has a great map at https://lnkd.in/gCHmqFv9, and there is almost certainly one in your region. Then, introduce yourself. Look on your community foundation's website for an online form for nonprofits. (Use their search option, if it's not obvious.) Learn the name of their program officer who oversees work that is similar to yours. If you can, send a well-written email BRIEFLY describing your work and impact. Ask for a BRIEF meeting by Zoom or phone so you can learn more about resources listed on their website for nonprofits like yours. Be specific about how they can help. Be thorough in looking over their website before you contact them. #nonprofit #fundraising
