Help us to care this Christmas. Could you donate this December to help us raise funds to care for families spending time with us this festive season? This Christmas, just like all the Christmases before, will be a very special day for all who spend it with us at St Cuthbert's Hospice. Decorations will be hung, trees will be trimmed, presents will be exchanged, crackers will be pulled, and our nurses will do all of the little things they can to make sure it is a day filled with treasured memories. Many families are aware that this will sadly be the last Christmas that they share with their loved ones, be that with us at St Cuthbert’s or with our support to get them home once again. We are determined to do all we can, to make this festive season memorable and full of love. To do this, we need your help. Any donation this December will make a difference. Thank you 💚 You can donate on this post using the button below or head to Just Giving via this link: https://lnkd.in/erWY2xAh

🎅 Who wants to raise money for charity, manage their weight over Christmas, and possibly win some FREE gifts!? 🎁 So, I’ve had an idea for helping people manage their weight and health over Christmas—with something as simple as a walking challenge—yes, walking! I then had an idea to hopefully make Children's Hospice Southwest some money from it! 🌟 The challenge is against yourself, or against others if you wish. And all it involves is taking as many steps as you can from December 1st to December 24th! Getting more active around Christmas will benefit your mental and physical health, along with weight management—don't underestimate how many calories you burn from walking! And you'll get a head start on your January "new year, new me" goals (if you have one). Having to record your daily steps validates your challenge and makes you accountable daily—accountability is a powerful tool! The challenge will run through my coaching app, so you can easily record your steps as you go about your day. Using our app’s software, your steps will then be tallied on two leaderboards. One leaderboard measures your progress against yourself, while the other measures your steps against others (as explained above, this leaderboard is optional). The entry fee for this challenge is only £5 each, and all proceeds will go to Children's Hospice Southwest. Imagine if we could get 200 people to enter and raise £1,000 for the hospice this Christmas. This is so achievable if we get friends, family, work colleagues, children, etc., to join the challenge. If you join the group challenge and come out on top of the leaderboard for December steps, you'll receive a 3-month online lifestyle transformation program from thehealthyparentclub.com. There will also be other prizes for 2nd and 3rd place! What's not to love? It only costs £5 to enter. All proceeds go to the Children’s Hospice Southwest. You'll improve your physical health. You'll skyrocket your mental health. You'll help offset all those pre-Christmas calories. You might even drop a dress size or fit into that old favourite shirt of yours for the Christmas work party. Comment below or message me if you're interested and I'll get it all set up for December 1st! Martyn https://www.chsw.org.uk/ Henrietta Olsson Daniela Hopkins P.S. I would really appreciate it if you could share, like, or comment on this post to spread its reach and work with the algorithm! 🙏💪

To help little Myles from Hope House and the 300,000 people who need to access the UK hospices, we must act together. As a supporter of several hospices, it is heart-breaking to see many who have invested time and fundraising to keep hospices open struggle to cover the basic operating costs. Some have tirelessly fundraised to build precious rooms left empty because they cannot fund them due to cost constraints, placing added burden on donations. It is shocking, despite the reality that a well-funded hospice sector would ease the pressure on NHS and social care, hospices only receive between 20-33% of state funding. The hospice sector already faces a £70 million black hole and so as there are hundreds of millions in annual FCA fines which go into the government pot and generally as a result of an injustice to the UK people who may benefit from the services offered by hospices, there is no better way to complete the circle by allocating these funds to the UK hospice sector. https://lnkd.in/dAesNS67

Christmas can be a difficult time for many of our residents, as it often brings additional financial and emotional stress. The pressure of covering extra costs, looking after themselves, or making the holiday special for their family—especially if they have any children—can feel overwhelming. Some may even find this season to be a triggering time due to past experiences or isolation. With this in mind, we are committed to making this holiday season a joyful and supportive time for all our current residents and outreach clients in the community through our Christmas Appeal. Donations will be used to cover various holiday needs, including: ● Christmas Gifts: Providing personalised presents for residents and their children/grandchildren to make them feel valued and remembered during this special time. ● Kai: Offering a festive meal to bring everyone together, alleviating the pressure of preparing a holiday feast. ● Wellness and Self-Care Packages: Many of our residents prioritise their families and often neglect their own well-being. Self-care packages, including items like hygiene products and self care tools, could encourage them to take care of themselves during this busy time. ● Social and Recreational Activities: Organising outings or inhouse events that fosters whanaungatanga, reduces isolation, and offers a chance to create joyful memories during what can otherwise be a difficult period. The contributions will help us create a holiday season that not only brings smiles but also provides much-needed relief and support to our residents who need it most. You can donate through our website wwh.org.nz/support-us Or directly to our account: Wellington Women’s House 03-0578-0919195-001 Please make your donation with the reference ‘Xmas Appeal’ Use your last name as the code to appear on our bank statement, then email your details to us at [email protected] and we can send you a receipt. It would be amazing if you could send your support by Thursday the 9th of December to give us time to get these generous donations where they need to be before the holidays.

I often tell people this - usually after they have expressed surprise that hospices like the ones where I worked have professional fundraising departments at all - and it is always met with shock. It makes services precarious for hospices in large cities but many of these do at least have reasonably affluent and connected communities. For hospices serving communities that are already struggling to support any number of other needs with very little, what does it mean for that 70% of funding? The bottom line is that centralised funding is vital to support parity of services across the UK - not only in end of life care but in any number of services needed to make our systems function. If 70% of what is available to you is linked to the affluence of your community, how can we claim we have public access?
Director of Income Generation & Communications at St Christopher’s Hospice, trustee of Porchlight, trustee of the Hospice Income Generation Network and school governor.
Did you know that if you or your family ever needed the support of a hospice at the end of life, the care you receive will have been 70%(ish) funded by fundraising and charity shops? Imagine if maternity services were only available to you if enough people had donated, run marathons or shopped second hand? We wouldn’t accept that for the start of life, so why do we accept it for the end? Today a motion is discussed in parliament to develop a more appropriate and more sustainable model of funding for all UK Hospices. And it’s great to see the conversation being taken seriously. Thanks to Hospice UK and others for their leadership. In the meantime, it’s my job to keep raising money for St Christopher's hospice so that we can care for people and their families at the most difficult of times. If you or your company can help in any way, please drop me a message. I’d love to tell you more about the difference you can make to people. We only get one chance to get end of life right and you can help make it peaceful, supported and personalised.

Tonight, MPs in the House of Commons will debate hospice funding. Led by Hospice UK, they are calling on the government to fund hospices across the UK more fairly. It costs more than £124,000 each week to provide personalised and specialist care for those supported by Havens Hospices. Thanks to donations from individuals and businesses in the local community, the care is absolutely free of charge. Steve Smith, CEO of Havens Hospices, says, "There is a growing demand for our hospice care, and our food and staffing bills are increasing, but there are signs that fundraising income is declining – both the number of people who can afford to donate to our charity and the amount they're able to give. "That means that over the coming 12 months, we are planning a 'deficit' budget. The money we have in reserves will cover the gap. Almost all hospices across the UK will be doing the same. "Havens Hospices receives statutory funding, which equates to around 20% of our total income. But as we're committed to paying our Care Teams a fair wage in line with their NHS colleagues, this statutory contribution isn't enough to keep pace with yearly NHS pay rises. "We're not yet at the stage where our care services are at risk, but we do have to ensure that our income is best spent on supporting those patients and families who need us. A sustainable model for funding quality hospice care will mean that we can support more local families who deserve the best possible care throughout their whole life's journey." So important this national discussion continues
So last night, MPs in the House of Commons debated for nearly 3.5 hours about hospice funding, and the urgent need for a more sustainable and reliable funding structure for hospices, starting at government level. The passion in the House was clear, MPs spoke from their hearts, sharing personal stories and urging this to be just the start of this important conversation. The debate was concluded by Helen Whately, the minister who has oversight for end of life care throughout the UK. In her own words "How you die, how your loved ones die, and indeed how you live, matters." Closely followed by saying that most palliative and end of life care is provided by hospitals and not hospices. If how I die matters, It certainly shouldn't be in a clinical hospital ward. I want to be surrounded by my family, listening to my favourite music in a homely and calm setting. Hospitals cannot deliver that. Although many MPs spoke about them running the London Marathon last weekend for their local hospice, and that this surely shouldn't be how hospices are funded, she congratulated them and said that fundraising for hospices is important. No hospice is looking for 100% funding. Being a charitable cause allows us the flexibility to add life to patient's last days. But without more sustainable and reliable funding from central government, services will have to look very different across the UK, with the cost going back to the NHS. Hospice UK reports that adult hospices receive on average on third of their income from the NHS, for Weldmar Hospicecare that's just 17%. We need to raise £27,500 every single day, on top of the money we receive from the NHS. If we were funded at the national average of 30%, we would not be facing a near £1M deficit this year. We will continue lobbying and campaigning for fairer and more sustainable funding. We will do everything we can to protect our services that are vital to so many people (not to mention the NHS) across Dorset. We would like to thank one of our three MPs, Chris Loder, who took the time to speak at the House of Commons last night, raising the awareness about the wonderful services that Weldmar Hospicecare provides. #Hospice #Hospicecare #Dorset #ThirdSector

This Christmas, let’s make a difference together. As we celebrate the season of joy, it’s important to remember those who are less fortunate. Africa Shades of Light Ministries (ASOL) is running a Christmas Meal Drive to ensure that families and individuals in underserved communities don’t go hungry this season. Our goal is simple: To provide food, hope, and love to those in need. A single meal can brighten someone’s day and remind them that they are seen, valued, and cared for. How you can help: 1. Donate – Every contribution goes directly towards feeding families this Christmas. 2. Spread the word – Share this message and encourage others to join in. Let’s come together to make this season a little brighter for those who need it most. Your generosity, big or small, can help put a smile on someone’s face. Let’s be the light this Christmas. If you’d like to give or learn more about how you can get involved, feel free to reach out to me directly. #GivingBack #ChristmasDrive #CommunityImpact #AfricaShadesOfLight #BeTheLight #SpreadHope
