People have different perspectives due to a multitude of factors such as personal experiences, social environmental, culture & beliefs and etc. Encouraging different perspectives is crucial for several reasons: Innovation and Creativity: Diverse perspectives bring a variety of ideas and approaches to problem-solving, leading to innovation and creativity. When people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences come together, they can offer unique insights that may not have been considered otherwise. Better Decision Making: When diverse perspectives are taken into account, decision-making tends to be more robust. It helps to identify potential blind spots and biases, leading to more well-rounded and informed decisions. Understanding and Empathy: Exposure to different perspectives fosters understanding and empathy towards others. It helps break down stereotypes and prejudices, promoting a more inclusive and harmonious society. Personal Growth: Engaging with different perspectives challenges our own beliefs and assumptions, fostering personal growth and intellectual development. It encourages critical thinking and a willingness to consider alternative viewpoints. Conflict Resolution: In situations of conflict, understanding different perspectives can facilitate resolution by helping parties empathize with each other's concerns and find common ground. Inclusivity and Representation: Encouraging diverse perspectives ensures that a wide range of voices is heard and represented. This is essential for creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and respected. Overall, embracing different perspectives enriches our lives personally, professionally, and socially, ultimately leading to a more vibrant and interconnected world. #perspectives #blindmenandelephant #knowledgesharing #dontjudge #respectandvalue #foodsafety #qaqcmanager

I was invited by the excellent Heather Graves - Ramsey Executive Coach and Leadership Advocate to chat with her cohort on the value of inclusion. At the session, we didn’t get to talk about the benefits of inclusion. So below are my thoughts. I have experienced very significant benefits of creating an inclusionary environment. 1. I can attract a bigger pool of often very talented individuals that CHOOSE to work for me. I see it as a very significant arbitrage opportunity. 2. The people that I hire tend to stick around longer and perform better. If we let people be who they are, accept and welcome them, it’s a huge intangible that keeps them engaged vs the cost of turnover, hiring new people etc. 3. Having diverse voices may mean more discussion or even disagreement, the solutions are often richer, more comprehensive and tend to have greater acceptance when you roll it out. Guaranteed. In the long run, it’s a no brainer. Finally here https://lnkd.in/gsRxjNa8 is a great video from one of my favorite aviation analysts, John Nance who talks about the value of inclusive teams.

“The problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete.” This is a quote taken from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED Talk, in which she speaks profoundly about the danger of a single story. Adichie explains how a single narrative can shape our perceptions in limited and often damaging ways. When we hear only one story about a person or place, we risk misunderstanding and reducing complex human experiences to a single, simplistic perspective. As HR leaders and professionals, we must strive to understand the diverse stories and backgrounds of our team members. Here are a few takeaways from Adichie’s talk that can help us foster a more inclusive and empathetic workplace: ✨Seek Multiple Perspectives: Don’t rely on a single narrative. Engage with your team members to understand their unique experiences and viewpoints. ✨Challenge Stereotypes: Be aware of how stereotypes can influence your decisions and interactions. Actively work to challenge and broaden your understanding. ✨Promote Inclusive Storytelling: Create spaces where diverse stories can be shared and celebrated. This can help build a more cohesive and supportive team culture. ✨Encourage Continuous Learning: Make it a habit to learn about different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. This ongoing education can help prevent the formation of narrow, single stories. What steps have you taken to ensure multiple stories are heard and valued in your workplace? Love this talk... #socialcapital #peckingorder Everybody has value. Stop trying to be a super chicken! The importance of collaboration, teamwork, valuing diversity and empathy. The corporate world is diverse, it takes many different skills, competencies and personalities to make a successfully team, suppressing other peoples talents so that you can achieve individual success is detrimental to productivity. Individualism kills collective success and suppresses teamwork, preventing diversity in thinking and productivity. https://lnkd.in/dzathjpp

Lived Experience. There’s nothing quite like evidence-based research, wrapped in accessible language, weaved in with a real life story of heartbreak and resilience, to illustrate a point. Last night I watched a TedTalk from Dr Lucy Hone called “3 Secrets of Resilient People” which should absolutely not be kept secret - and wasn’t, as it went viral amassing millions of views since 2019. Lucy speaks to the love and loss of her 12 year old daughter, who was killed in a car crash travelling through Rakaia on Thompsons Track. Dr. Hone suggests that part of building resilience is accepting suffering. Which can seem bleak and hopeless, but I think can be quite the opposite. I remember writing a piece a few years back stating my opinion that "suffering is a part of life, if you’re brave enough to live it" - which felt vulnerable to put out and was received as pessimistic at the time. Dr. Hone articulates this, and so much more, practically and powerfully. There are too many of us experiencing adversity and hardship upon hardship, at the moment. If you need some help accessing your own resilience, I recommend watching this offering and checking out Dr. Lucy Hone’s mahi. #resilience #grief #leadership #accountability #advocacy

This is one of the most profound moments of witnessing the depths of human emotions. I love this 'The Artist is Present' from start to finish. The idea of sharing a moment of silence with a stranger is so simple yet profoundly moving. It's available to us everywhere yet we go to all kinds of lengths to avoid it. What would happen if we looked up once in a while and shared a moment of silence with our friends, colleagues, children, neighbours, enemies, ourselves? I would love to do an experiment with this in the workplace in correlation to productivity, teamwork, engagement, retention, inclusion, collaboration and absenteeism.... How do you think it would turn out? #humanity #emotionalintelligence #emotionalbeings #humanemotions #connection #collaboration #consciousleadership https://lnkd.in/dUemF7UA
