In my MBA program at Fresno State, I’m learning how powerful concepts like the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and the build-measure-learn loop are in bringing a product idea to life. Recently, my team and I began designing Falcon tube holders tailored for lab use, with the goal of creating a product that meets the real needs of researchers and lab technicians. Starting with an MVP approach, we’re focusing on a basic design that addresses core lab requirements. Using the build-measure-learn loop, we’re designing, gathering feedback from potential users across Fresno State labs, and then refining our plans based on their insights. This feedback has already highlighted specific features that users find valuable, helping us prioritize the design elements that matter most. Even though we’re still in the design phase, this project has shown me the importance of user-centered development and the value of making adjustments based on real-world input. Two weeks ago, I was part of the jury that awarded the best VCP presentations during the summer semester 2024 closing event of DLab, the interdisciplinary certificate program in "Digital Technology Management" @ TU Dortmund. I was deeply impressed by the pitches of all teams and encouraged all students to further pursue their ideas. You totally rocked, guys!!! Our society needs students like these who are creative and driven to make the world into a better place. Many pitches focused on sustainability and equity (as in enabling participation) And we (at Uni) need to teach them how to turn these ideas and visions into reality. Exactly, what DLab and CET do at TU Dortmund University. And we (after Uni) need to enable them to build companies that implement, validate, and scale their ideas. Here (as far as I can tell) we still have some work to do in Germany: normalising and celebrating entrepreneurship, failing and trying again, and funding ideas and people as part of cultivating an eco system that will help Europe (and especially Germany) catch up with other world regions on innovation.
