I love anything Kieran Maguire authors and this is the best explanation I have seen for the American investor's obsession with English #football. Touching on the issues that matter to the typical investor - risks of relegation, 'reasonable' valuations of multiples of revenue (compared to Big Five American leagues) in recent #EPL transactions, attempts to form a super League with guaranteed revenues - it's all in there. Great explanation why over half the clubs in the Premier League are owned by Americans. https://lnkd.in/eDwDsCsJ

As Alvine Capital takes a closer look at sports investing with our upcoming Thought Piece, we interested ourselves in football, which continues to provide the most liquid market partly due to the number of investable assets. According to research by Deloitte, football comprised 52% of all sports rights holder deals globally in 2023 with the majority of the football deal flow stemming from North American investors. English clubs were the primary target, making up 29% of all football deals in 2023. But is America’s love affair with investing in the Premier League fading? This article gives a few reasons, including currency exchange considerations. #sports #sportinvesting #olympics #privateequity #alternativeinvesting #footballinvesting #soccer #football #premierleague

A debate in our home often sparks between my daughters and my son about the relative fame of Taylor Swift versus Liverpool FC. When this comes up, I always emphasize that a proper valuation analysis would be needed to draw meaningful comparisons between the two. Exciting news! My colleagues have initiated the process with Kroll’s European Football Stadium Naming Rights Report. This analysis covers the top 36 teams in major European football leagues, offering valuation metrics based on various factors like shirt sponsorships, social media followers, and team performance. Curious about the potential income for Europe’s top football clubs? Check out the analysis here: http://ms.spr.ly/6048lbEvq (Now all that is left is to value the Swiftie Empire, and the matter will be settled). #ValuationAnalysis #EuropeanFootball #NamingRights #Valuation

Why Are Buy-Back Clauses Becoming More Common in Football? ⚽️ It has become common for football clubs to sell players permanently while including buy-back clauses and 'matching rights' in their contracts. These are popular trends in football transfers, giving selling clubs a chance to regain a player at a predetermined fee if they shine elsewhere. This offers flexibility and mitigates risk for selling clubs while providing financial benefits for both sides. With FIFA's new loan rules and financial fair play pressures, clubs are adapting. This shift allows them to balance financial sustainability while retaining future potential. Will this allow clubs to pull different long-term financial levers as and when needed? How are buyback clauses operating in a market? Comments and thoughts. #Football #Transfers #SportsLaw #PlayerContracts #FinancialFairPlay #SportsBusiness https://lnkd.in/gEk6y-gu

The trend of investing into European clubs from the US evidently slowed down in the past 12 months. Investors became more cautious and less adhoc when it comes to get a stake in European assets. Overall, the trend to invest into sports and making sports an asset class is continuing, however the process and the investment levels has been adapting and changing. We are sure that 2025 will bring further interesting investment and acquisition news which will be discussed in the industry! #sportsinvestment #sportsbusiness
