Mastering the flute: corrugated products that hit the right note The evolution of the corrugated industry continues at pace and is to be realised at London Packaging Week 2024 when the show returns on 11 & 12 September at ExCeL. Megatrends such as “paperfication” of the packaging industry and a global health crisis have given corrugated a hefty shove in the right direction, supported by developments in materials, hardware and design that make the material an increasingly adaptable and appealing packaging medium. Today, this makes corrugated as suitable for shipping luxury cosmetics and beverage products directly to the customer’s door, as much as it is for distributing goods throughout supply chains. Face it, guys, rural manufacturing is often under served and overlooked. They're the forgotten ones. They don't always have the opportunity to travel to big trade shows. They don't get to see what's new in #factoryautomation because they're busy getting the job done. They have to rely on catalogs and websites for inspiration and they rarely get the opportunity to physically touch and play with stuff that they just might be able to use. That's like buying pants online without trying them on first. Things aren't always what they seem and sometimes the fit is completely off. I hate that. Our solution was to bring the trade show to them, so we invited some of our vendor partners to set up displays and we sent invitations to all of the manufacturers within a 100 mile radius. We wanted to show some appreciation to those hardworking guys and gals by giving them the opportunity to make the short trip over to see some cool stuff and eat some good barbecue. Mission accomplished. Over 100 took us up on the offer. I even had several folks thank me for giving them this chance to get out for a couple of hours and get a taste of the trade show experience. That was what the whole day was about and it made my heart sing. I know we all love to take the big orders, but don't forget about the small to midsized, rural manufacturers. They deserve love, too! It's too soon to say that I'm ready to do it again, but I'm sure in a few weeks when the fatigue wears off we'll start planning for the next one!!! #conveyorcougar #supportsmallmanufacturing #ruralmanufacturingmatters
