A top down approach doesn't always work. To channel America's past time, you don't need to hit a home run every at bat. There is an article in The Washington Post about how there have been so few EV charging stations built despite the money earmarked to do so. There are lots of reasons for this that the article dives into. One that we are not talking about is that this is, in a lot of ways, a top down approach. There more ways than one to get more EV charging stations out across the country. One innovative idea is what Paired Power is doing with mobile, solar powered charging stations. These can be used in places like National Parks for example. The point is, renewable energy doesn't and frankly can't be a top down push. It needs to happen from the bottom up with the big stuff (ie, money and permitting) done at the national or state levels. #Renewable #EVCharging https://lnkd.in/gwMzSfrF

An interesting report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) that illustrates the impressive deployment of battery storage over the last 10 years thanks mainly to EVs (which represents 90% of the total li-ion capacity deployment). The sharp decrease of battery prices (a factor of 10 in 10 years) is certainly an excellent news and will hopefully accelerate its deployment in the stationary/utility industry to solve renewable intermittency. #BatteryStorage #RenewableEnergy
Since 2010, battery costs have fallen by more than 90% — offering opportunities to cut emissions in road transport & electricity In 2023, electric car sales rose to almost 14 million. And battery storage deployment in the power sector more than doubled 👉 https://iea.li/3QkeLgZ

🌍Lithium-ion batteries dominate battery use due to recent cost reductions and performance improvements. 🌍Lithium-ion batteries have outclassed alternatives over the last decade, thanks to 90% cost reductions since 2010, higher energy densities and longer lifetimes. 🌍Lithium-ion battery prices have declined from USD 1 400 per kilowatt-hour in 2010 to less than USD 140 per kilowatt-hour in 2023. 🌍It's one of the fastest cost declines of any energy technology ever, as a result of progress in research and development and economies of scale in manufacturing. 🌍They have also achieved much higher energy densities than lead acid batteries, allowing them to be stacked in much lighter and more compact battery packs.

It is easy to see why players in the solar industry are moving towards #BESS. We have spoken with many Malaysian companies in solar and many are showing an interest in making that strategic pivot. If this is something that interests you as well, let's connect to have a further discussion! Solar & Storage Live Malaysia

Technology and human behavior are key to putting the world on track to transitioning. Also, both producers and consumers benefit as private and public investments will increasingly flow into renewables and education. And luckily, we will have cost decline like batteries’ enough to achieving the transition. There is hope.

I really hope policymakers and anyone else that can influence policy will appreciate this deeply. It has been my experience that mass manufactured electronic (and other) goods typically enjoy a steep learning curve (semiconductors, LEDs, hard disk drives, electric motors, batteries, solar panels etc), while big civil engineering based projects (nuclear, CCS, pumped storage etc) take a long time to build, only get more expensive over time (as they track the cost of land and major commodities - concrete and steel etc). So before embarking on (more) support for large scale, civil engineering projects, please think about the above, and in particular: imagine what might be possible with batteries that are 90% cheaper again?

📊 We can observe significant drop of battery prices through out last years. More information about this trend in the newest report by International Energy Agency (IEA) However, is the industry aware of the origin of most components/material (cobalt, lithium) used for their manufacturing?
