Over 50% of South Carolina’s public school students are not meeting standards for heart and lung health. House Bill 4655 supports students in meeting the recommended amount of health-enhancing physical activity for all children in South Carolina public schools. These opportunities support students’ readiness for college, a career, and military service. We're proud to see lawmakers taking action! Let's prioritize our children's health by supporting this initiative. Read more about the importance of physical activity in schools in The Post & Courier article linked in our bio. Together, we can create a healthier future for South Carolina! Question: What types of initiatives does the OCC Project support? Answer: The primary mission of Operation Child Care Project is any initiative that contributes to the equity and accessibility of child care for military and veteran families. This predominately takes place in the form of case management and advocacy. However, we know that child care impacts all areas of life, including recruitment and retention. As a result, we shift our programming to fit what families tell us they need. The mission of Operation Child Care Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is to ensure that military families have access to affordable, high-quality child care options, empowering them to pursue their career goals and create stable environments for their quality of life. We strive to bridge the gap between the demand and availability of child care services through data-driven decision-making, authentic storytelling, and advocacy. As business leaders, we're in a unique position to make a difference in the lives of veterans who have PTSD. Many veterans with PTSD face lengthy waits for service dogs. By allowing employees to bring future service dogs to work, we enable more people to participate in training them, shortening that wait. It's a win-win. The presence of these dogs fosters an environment of care and support, improves communication, and makes for a happier workplace. Wondering where to start or how to boost your own corporate community involvement program? Can you imagine a world without volunteers? So many things couldn’t survive or wouldn’t even exist without them. If you live in a rural area, can you imagine what would happen without your volunteer firefighters? What about all of the volunteers that head straight to disaster areas to help rebuild and get people the food and services they need? Think about all those who help with our National Parks (Happy National Parks Week too!), conservation groups, beautification committees. Museums, theaters, and other cultural site volunteers. Healthcare workers and aides. Social services like food banks, abuse shelters, homeless shelters, community rec centers, Boys Club, Girls Club. Educational services like school aides that help the handicapped navigate school, literacy coaches, after school programs, tutors, playground workers, PTO / PTA organizers. Coaches, referees/officials, concession stand moms and dads. Sunday school teachers, church workers. Veterans group helpers like Honor Flights and people at the VA and those that house homeless vets. Peace Corps. Blood donors. Job Search support groups, like the one I was involved with 40Plus of Southeastern Wisconsin. All the people that organize all of these! I know I’ve missed a lot of examples. But just think! All of the people that fill these roles do it because they have a passion for helping, for the people they are serving and they want to make things easier for someone else. They work hard and don't ask to be paid. Just imagine a world where everyone gave freely and unselfishly like that. If there is a volunteer out there who has had a positive impact on your life, now is a good time to say THANK YOU! #volunteer #celebratevolunteers #helping

At Ready, Willing & Able Philadelphia, we work at the intersection of two of Philadelphia’s most pressing issues. First, we help people living with substance use disorder stay off the streets and in recovery. In the most recent program year, ending June 30, this translated into tangible results: · 16,970 cumulative nights of men clean and sober in our recovery house; · 155 men lived at RWAP for an average of 109 days/nights; and · 23 men completed the RWAP program, got full-time jobs, and moved into stable housing. Our life-saving work stands in contrast to the devastating reality that in 2023, 1,122 Philadelphians died of unintentional overdoses. In 2022, that number was 1,207. Unintentional overdoses have been the third-highest cause of death in Philadelphia since 2016, except during the height of the COVID pandemic. Among Philadelphians ages 24 to 44, unintentional overdose is the leading cause of death, killing nearly twice as many as homicide in this age group in 2023. Second, we remove litter from neighborhood business corridors and public spaces. When the “Men in Blue” hit the streets, we make communities safer by removing dangerous items, including used needles and other paraphernalia. We make communities safer by removing discarded food and containers, reducing attractions for vermin and feral animals. Your past donations saved lives. Your next donation will save more lives. It’s as simple and profound as that. Please donate by PayPal or credit card via the Donate Now button at www.rwaphila.org. If you prefer to send a check, please make it payable to “Ready, Willing & Able Philadelphia”.
