Your company's values are a reflection of you. When I started my first company, I was all about finding the right values. I scoured Google and HubSpot thinking, "Yeah, those look good." But here's what I learned: Your company's values need to be an extension of yourself. To cultivate a strong culture, you've got to lead the charge. Your actions need to mirror those values day in and day out. Take the concept of unlimited paid time off, for instance. It's all the rage, but does it really work if you're stuck in a perpetual cycle of work guilt? For me, the key to effective time off is feeling guilt-free. If you need a break, take it, no strings attached. It's the same with any of our employees at Search Nurture. By embodying our values, we set the tone for the entire company. Remember, your actions speak louder than words. Lead by example and watch your company thrive. Agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comments. ⬇️ #CompanyValues #Leadership #Culture #LeadByExample #SearchNurture

EVERYONE needs positive feedback. This week, I presented to a group of senior leaders at HubSpot. The preparation was intense: 📊 Hours crafting the story ✍️ Countless iterations 👥 Multiple dry runs 😰 Sleepless nights After I finished, that familiar voice crept in: "Was it good?" "Was I clear enough?" Then something magical happened, straight after the meeting. My inbox started lighting up: "You absolutely crushed it." "Your presentation was unreal" "That was seriously really good" The impact? Those messages transformed my stress into satisfaction. They made all the hard work worth it. They re-energised me. And I know I'm not alone in this feeling. Right now, someone in your orbit: - Hit a milestone - Nailed a presentation - Overcame a challenge - Solved a tough problem And they're wondering if anyone noticed or if they did a good job. Think about it: How many great performances went unacknowledged today? How many victories were celebrated in silence? The cost of recognition: 30 seconds of your time. The return: - Validated effort - Boosted confidence - Strengthened relationships - Enhanced performance Your mission (if you choose to accept it): Before you close-off for the week, think of someone who impressed you recently. Send them a specific message about what they did well. I promise you, it will change their day. #Leadership #PersonalGrowth #Recognition #Culture #CSM

Intense(ly fun) week: Between onboarding sessions, training workshops, and guest speaking, it became a fascinating peek into the world of marketing agencies and leaders who are reshaping their industry. One pattern jumped out across every interaction: The best aren't just "doing marketing" - they're focusing on business value, business strategy, and fundamentally changing HOW marketing gets done in the process. 4 leaders worth watching: 1. Robert Trube: Watched him distill months of complex positioning work into crystal-clear messaging in under 15 minutes yesterday. He is fearless wielding his "simple stick" to cut through jargon - it's a superpower. 2. Clare Price and the team at Octain Growth: Bringing "Moneyball" precision to marketing operations. They're turning marketing chaos into predictable, scalable growth systems. 3. Max Traylor: The casual "Beers with Max" vibe masks a laser focus on bringing value to his clients. Saw this firsthand speaking to his Databox partner cohort with Databox CEO Peter Caputa (who is also changing the game). 4. Demand Metric: They've assembled an army of 80+ experienced executives who are revolutionizing GTM and growth strategy. Imagine the collective power of decades of battle-tested expertise focused on transforming how companies grow and excel. 🤔 Who are you watching reshape the marketing landscape? #MarketingStrategy #AgencyGrowth #MarketingLeadership #strategyexecution ResultMaps

After working in digital marketing for over 7 years, I’ve learned how important it is to be less reactive and more responsive, both at work and in life. When we react quickly, we often feel stressed and make decisions that we might regret later. We lose focus and take things too personally, which can lead to frustration. But when we stay calm and respond thoughtfully, we can see the bigger picture. We become more flexible and open-minded, which helps us handle challenges better. Instead of letting stress control us, we can focus on solving problems and staying steady. This change in mindset has been very important, especially when managing marketing campaigns that need both creativity and clear thinking. By being responsive instead of reactive, I’ve been able to deal with tough situations more effectively, leading to better results. #DigitalMarketing #MarketingStrategy #BusinessGrowth #Leadership #MindsetMatters #SuccessMindset #ProfessionalDevelopment #MarketingTips #CareerGrowth #EntrepreneurMindset #StressManagement #MarketingTrends #PersonalDevelopment #BusinessTips #WorkLifeBalance

In under 90 seconds, Nick Saban summarized the epicenter of conflict in many nonprofits, teams, and businesses. The rub often gets misdiagnosed as "personality conflicts," but actually, it's a values clash. Those committed to excellence through growth, continual improvement, and making a habit of success will always conflict with those entrenched in complacency, familiarity, and mediocrity. Pick any team, business, or organization, and this disharmony will be present, even if all are superficially cooperating now out of professional necessity. However, ultimately, the leadership at the top of the organizational chart will decide how the enterprise's future unfolds based on what it values and propagates. If leadership commits to continual improvement, the stagnant will eventually take the path of least resistance and opt-out—or, in the worst case, get pushed out or left behind. Conversely, if the status quo devotees are in power, your top performers will eventually leave for a better culture amongst the like-minded. Ultimately, an organization will eventually become all one thing or all the other or continue to suffer from almost daily conflict and disunity.

Love this perspective! As you gain more experience you begin to understand things from a 50 thousand foot view. What is best or easiest for one role may not be best for the team and what is best for one single team may not be best for the company. Being able to see things at this level and make decisions that benefit the company first and foremost is one of the best ways for executives to drive value.
“As we grew, we looked to hire adults vs children.” That’s what Brian Halligan, Founder and Executive Chairman of Hubspot, said about scaling the leadership team at Hubspot in the early days. But what does that mean? As he explained it, there are 3 frames of value - Enterprise Value - Team Value - Me Value Adults solve first and foremost for Enterprise Value regardless of what department they represent. Children solve for Team Value and Me Value. Effectively, the wrong kind of executive eventually becomes a lobbying organization on behalf of their department and can’t grasp the idea of putting the company first and foremost above all. This is parallel to the ideas that Patrick Lencioni shares about first team. Your first team are your peers on the executive team, not the folks that work for you. I’ve seen exactly the same thing in my years of leadership. The best executives put their first team - their peers at the executive level - first. This is akin to putting the company first and it is essential to succeeding at the highest level. You are not just a lobbyist for your organization.

🚀 Wrapping Up My First Quarter as a Leader! 🚀 How’d it go? Well, it’s been a blend of highs and a few "oh-no" moments. Here’s the good, the bad, and the downright lessons from my front-line leadership journey—so you can dodge some of my shit mistakes! 🤔 Starting with the buzz: There’s nothing quite like having quota in your bones again. Closing strong is a buzz that doesn’t fade! For some context, I've been a BDR, AE, and moved into enablement—pretty well-rounded, right? But wow, here’s the twist: People are people and, let’s just say, it’s a bit more complex than 6x your number rolling up. Here’s how things went: ✅ What Went Well > Empowerment > Micromanagement: Trust them to own their roles! > Respect & Responsibility: Treating the team as adults is non-negotiable. > Team Bonding: A strong culture matters. > Radical Candour: Building an environment of honest feedback (caring personally, challenging directly). > Sales Training: Prepping today’s talent for tomorrow’s deals. > Forecasting Fundamentals: Helping the team nail this will be critical for AE success down the line. ❌ What Didn’t Go So Well > 5-Day Work Week? 🙃 Between holidays, sickness, and training, there’s no such thing! I now set expectations and agreements around top of funnel activity being done a 4-day week, with day 5 being a “bonus” if it happens. > Lagging Indicators: Missed an ACV target. It stings. But as a fresh BDR team, we're focusing on what we can control. Im excited to watch this unfold over the coming months and years. > People > Numbers: Managing metrics can only take you so far. Learning to lead through my team is a journey, but I’m all in. > Coaching Over Telling: Enablement skills helped, but coaching is different. I’m investing here with some guns in their space. > Limit the Slack: Keep Slack to essential posts, not constant reminders. Collaboration NOT admin. >>> Here’s to learning, leading, and (hopefully) fewer mistakes in Q2! 💥 Will Sones Nick Wright Jess Currey Ebony Linkenbagh Sophie J. Maddison Scannell
