Benny Lee, RGE’s Executive Vice President (External Affairs), recently shared his insights on adopting corporate purpose to create positive impact. According to Benny, it's important to reframe thinking about corporate purpose, transforming it into a genuine desire to do good, rather than viewing it as a mere duty. Speaking alongside Keith Chua, Executive Chairman of ABR Holdings Limited, Patrick Lee, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore) Limited, Kathryn Dioth, CEO of Hinrich Foundation , Boon Heong Ng, Executive Director and CEO of Temasek Foundation, at the Singapore Apex Business Summit panel moderated by Professor Annie Koh, PhD from Singapore Management University, Benny highlighted RGE’s 5Cs philosophy which emphasises on doing good for the community, country, climate and customer before the company itself. He then cited some ground examples of our community development projects of APRIL Asian Agri and Bracell in Indonesia and Brazil, explaining how it is important to understand the local systems in order to collaborate effectively with stakeholders. By considering “beneficiaries” as “impact partners”, we also foster a mindset of mutual growth and upliftment. Benny also emphasised the importance of monitoring, learning and evaluation in ensuring our approach and initiatives are meaningful, effective and capable of achieving their intended outcomes. By understanding the success factors of each initiative, we are able to continuously improve and scale our impact. In closing, Benny urged businesses thinking of embarking on the corporate purpose journey to "start small, dream big,”, as he stressed the importance of not letting fear paralyse us, even as we should envision over a larger time horizon.
