This past Friday was a day to remember for our team! We were thrilled to see the Spectrum Research Forum receive an incredible online turnout, with researchers, healthcare professionals, and community members gathering for a dynamic exchange of ideas and innovations. The event truly underscored the power of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in advancing research. In addition to this success, we're also excited to share that Pari, our talented Research Education Officer, was awarded a Presentation Award at a separate Eastern Health Research forum! Her insightful presentation, which focused on the Victorian Mental Health Clinician Survey truly captivated the audience, highlighting her dedication and expertise in the field. We’re proud to see Pari’s hard work being celebrated, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come in the world of research and innovation at Spectrum. #ResearchExcellence #MentalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #Teamwork #Spectrum #EasternHealth

So happy to read an article by Michelle Bihary in the Winter edition of the OT Connections magazine 2024 about Best Practice Supervision - the key quote was "It's crucial to acknowledge that investing in best practice supervision isn't just an option; it's an imperative. We must commit to fostering supervisory relationships that empower, nurture, and respect". Also equally happy to read an article by Roseanne Holliday in the same edition, Continuing the Neurodiversity Affirming Practice Conversation, which follows on from my article introducing this topic in the Summer 2023 OT Connections magazine! The key quote was "By listening to neurodivergent adults regarding their lived experiences and their interactions with health, education and community services we may gain a better understanding and insight into how to better serve our clients". Highly recommend reading these articles! #OccupationalTherapy #Connections #KnowledgeIsPower #NeurodiversityAffirmingPractice #OccupationalTherapySupervision

Despite attempts to improve disparities in access to treatment, research shows that racial and ethnic minority populations continue to face significant challenges in accessing any form of mental health or substance use treatment, let alone culturally sensitive treatment. MHA believes that the best response is for all providers including MHA and its affiliates to embrace and integrate a multifaceted, holistic, approach to diversity that focuses on acceptance, inclusion, and understanding of the needs of all communities. We strive for a better tomorrow by adopting the truth that all people deserve equal opportunities in health care including mental health care. "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘪𝘹 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵?" If you could solve one problem in your world or sphere of influence, what would it be? In a world full of challenges, there's always that one issue that stands out—something that, if solved, could bring about meaningful change. Whether it's improving children's access to education, tackling maternal mortality, promoting mental health awareness, or something else entirely, it's important to think about how we can make a difference in our little corner. For me, the one problem I'd solve would be improving the health outcomes of communities, one person at a time through advocacy and health education. I believe if people know better, it will improve their chances of being better. 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 . This issue is crucial because whether it is just the health of Father, mother, and child ,everyone truly matters. A woman should not have to die because she is pregnant and can't access health care. By addressing it, I believe we could have a more productive society with people reaching their full potential. Now, I’d love to hear from you: If you had the power to solve any problem in your sphere of influence, what would it be and why? It was great to join the seminar on "Navigating Times of Change for Public Health: New Insights on Mental Health, Wellbeing, and Health Behaviours to Advance Health Equity" yesterday in Utrecht, Netherlands. Coordinated by RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, Trimbos-instituut, and EuroHealthNet, the event featured excellent speakers who emphasized the critical role of mental health and behavioural science in public health—two topics that closely align with my interests. We had the pleasure of hearing from esteemed speakers representing WHO, OECD, Trimbos, and Mental Health Europe, among others. Our discussions highlighted the role of behavioural sciences in public health and the importance of implementation science for developing and executing effective interventions. Looking forward to applying these insights to contribute to health equity! #PublicHealth #MentalHealth #BehaviouralScience #HealthEquity #ImplementationScience

🚨 Why is mental health R&D so slow? 🚨 Celebrate #WorldMentalHealthDay by understanding how we can drive change together? A recent review by Wellcome Trust and Technopolis Group (https://bit.ly/3YjAUk3) highlights key barriers in the mental health R&D landscape, from scientific knowledge gaps to clinical trial recruitment and retention challenges. Regulatory uncertainty, complex pricing, digital product confusion, and low treatment-seeking due to stigma also contribute to the delays. The report calls the R&D pathway a ‘leaky pipeline,’ with vital roles for funders and investors to help plug the gaps through innovative funding, collaborations, and advocacy. #MentalHealthDay #MentalHealthResearch #Innovation #FundingMentalHealth #R&D #Collaboration #MentalHealth

You've likely seen the U.S. Surgeon General is prioritizing and addressing the epidemic of loneliness and isolation, which he cites increases heart disease, risk of stroke and premature death by about 25-30%! A Harvard 2020 study found loneliness most severe among 18-25 year olds with 3 out of 5 young adults reporting 'serious loneliness.' Like many other posts this month, we're breaking the stigma and sharing tools. Here are three free ones! ✔ Connection: 5 Actions for 5 days https://lnkd.in/ei6yqyih. - Make it a team, family or friend affair and be each other accountability partners ✔ May 22 -Social skills virtual event: How adults can help kids and teens with social skills hosted by Renee Jain https://lnkd.in/evyeFupY ✔ Toolkit: Ways to change phone norms as a community (authored by Erez Levin) To read more about the research of the impact of early phone use, Jonathon Haidt released his new book, "The Anxious Generation" last month: https://lnkd.in/eUA9gdeZ

At the recent Future Of Mental Healthcare symposium, I had the opportunity to learn about Greenspace Health and connect with its amazing team members, Jesse Lee Hayman and Simon Weisz. Greenspace Health is a technology company revolutionizing the adoption of Measurement-Based Care (MBC) in the behavioral health and substance use sector. The solution empowers clients, providers, organizations, and health systems with objective data and insights, enhancing engagement, clinical decision-making, and service innovation. They focus on four fundamental principles of MBC, which they like to call the 4 C's: Consistency, Customization, Client visibility, and Collaboration. Each ‘C’ is imperative to clients and clinicians getting the most out of MBC and is at the heart of Greenspace's approach, which is made possible by its powerful and intuitive technology. When I spoke with Jesse Lee Hayman, Chief Growth Officer, about Greenspace, I got great insight into the difference they are making as a team. Watch the video to learn how, as Jesse explains their transformative impact on mental health care. It was encouraging to interact with the empathetic team of Greenspace, which is elevating client voices, supporting providers with rich insights, and offering organizations powerful data to improve quality of care. #MentalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #MeasurementBasedCare #FutureOfMentalHealthcare #MentalHealthMonth
