A long one... As someone who has had to manage and get support for my mental health when it has become too much on several occasions throughout my career, it's imperative to me that we ensure that my teams have the support and tools to assist and enable them when the need arises. Prevention is much better than cure as we all know. Yes, we work in a highly pressured, risky, uncertain sector and industry but that doesn't mean you have to burn yourself out so you can't function with the other things in life. There are several mechanisms I use to manage and prevent my stress bucket from spilling over: 1. Movement - I enjoy running and walking the dog in the countryside with a good podcast or music - The body needs it and you will get the chance to sort thoughts and get endorphins... win-win! 2. No or little alcohol - (I'm not preaching) but this has completely changed me for the better in all aspects of my life. 3. Good Sleep - Ensuring an earlier bedtime and wind down. Leave the phone downstairs if you can. 4. Thinking Time - No to back-to-back meetings storing up actions and work that you won't or can't get around to. Say no to this way of life, even if the client demands it! 5. A thought kickabout - It helps me to kick ideas about, think together, hear and visualise the thoughts and logic and have a safe space/person to do so. Mine is Ian Simmonds. There's more we can do to prevent rather than rescue. Look after yourself and be in the best place to look after each other...the saying is "...understand the importance of putting your own oxygen mask on first before helping others" It's easier to say now I have the experience and have seen the bottom of the proverbial well, but this advice to my younger self is worth its weight in gold. Together we are stronger. Let's talk 😊 #Weareinfraco #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #WellBeingAtWork #EndTheStigma #preventionisbetterthancure #infrastructure

💡 Join us for an insightful 45-minute webinar as we launch our #AskTwice campaign this #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. This initiative is designed to empower officers and police staff to cultivate a supportive environment for mental health management 🙌 Discover the importance of asking twice and fostering open dialogue around mental health concerns for yourself and your colleagues. In today's fast-paced world, the simple question "How are you?" has lost its genuine concern and become a mere formality. Through the Ask Twice campaign, we aim to change that by encouraging officers, police staff, and colleagues to pause and ask each other twice, "How are you? Really, how are you?" We are also thrilled to have a sports therapist on board. HM Forces Instructor Mel Lynch will join us to shed light on the vital connection between movement and mental wellbeing. Mel will share insights into how incorporating movement into your daily routine can profoundly impact your overall mental health and cultivate resilience during challenging times. Learn more about available support, solutions and mechanisms to facilitate recovery and enhance your and your colleagues' wellbeing. 🗓 15 May | ⏰ 10:30 Book your spot today 👇 https://lnkd.in/ev5xnkz6

Mental health is just as important as physical health. In the hustle and bustle of work, it's easy to forget to take time for us! What can we all do? Reach Out 📞: A simple “How are you doing?” can make a huge difference. Listen 👂: Offer a non-judgmental ear. Sometimes, that’s all someone needs. Be Mindful of Workloads ⚖️: Recognise when someone is under pressure and offer support. Encourage Balance 🌱: Promote taking breaks and respecting personal time. To anyone struggling, know that you’re not alone. Reach out if you need support! Whether it’s to a colleague, friend, or professional. Together, we can create an environment where mental health is openly discussed and prioritised. Stay well and remember to take care of you. 💫 #MentalHealthMatters #SupportEachOther #WorkplaceWellbeing
The theme of this year’s #WorldMentalHealthDay is “It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace.” Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we're committed to creating environments that prioritise everyone’s mental wellbeing. Earlier this year, we launched our Mental Health First Aiders initiative, ensuring our team has trained individuals available to provide immediate support when needed. We are excited to announce the next step: the launch of our Mental Health Committee. Chaired by Sean Pybus and supported by colleagues from across the business, the committee aims to break down barriers and drive initiatives that promote mental health, ensuring it remains at the heart of our culture. See what Sean has to say about mental health and our new committee below ⬇ #MentalHealthMatters #PrioritiseMentalHealth #MentalHealthCommittee #PlayAsATeam #SBFMSocial
