We humans have an innate need to belong — to one another, to our friends and families, and to our culture and country. The same is true when we’re at work. When people feel like they belong at work, they are more productive, motivated, engaged and 3.5 times more likely to contribute to their fullest potential. A recent study found that more than 40% of those surveyed are feeling physically and emotionally isolated in the workplace. The group spanned generations, genders, and ethnicities. The results of our survey pointed to one simple solution: establish more opportunities for colleagues to check in with one another. The study found that 39% of respondents feel the greatest sense of belonging when their colleagues check in with them, both personally and professionally. Do your colleagues and yourself a favor, check in and ask them how they’re doing. The power in that simple phrase will help build a culture of belonging and a more productive team. Given the rising rates of low employee morale, I’ve been reflecting on a crucial issue in our workplaces: why do people really leave? Based on my experience, it boils down to this: negative judgments and biases erode our sense of belonging. 🥺 When we feel judged, whether consciously or unconsciously, it ultimately feels like who we are isn’t valued, causing us to suppress our authenticity and potential. And of course this strikes at our ability to belong. This isn’t just about feeling unseen or disrespected. It’s about the deep impact this has on our well-being and engagement at work. As leaders, we all want our team members to stay and thrive, but we must be mindful of the signals we send. Let’s work together to create environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and truly connected. Do you agree with what I’m saying here? #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceBelonging #InclusiveLeadership #AuthenticityAtWork #EmpathyInLeadership

This message resonates deeply with me. I’ve been in situations where, despite others saying all the right things, I still felt unheard and unseen. The energy in the room spoke volumes, and I could sense that I wasn’t truly valued. As leaders, it’s vital to be attuned to those subtle behaviors that can send powerful signals to those we support. Whether intentional or unintentional, the impact of these actions is very real and can profoundly affect those around us. Another great post Ritu Bhasin #leadbyexample #impact #nonprofitleadership

When was the last time you told your team they were doing a great job? As leaders, it's up to us to create a genuine connection with each of our team members through regular check-ins and positive (or constructive) feedback. According to the Harvard Business Review, "when people feel like they belong at work, they are more productive, motivated, engaged and 3.5 times more likely to contribute to their fullest potential". Personal and professional check-ins that come from a place of genuine care help make employees feel valued and connected. This can help nurture more engaged, trusting, and happy team members who are motivated to succeed not only as an individual, but as part of the larger whole as well. But most importantly, it reminds everyone that we're all on the same team, working towards the same goal. Whether you're managing your first team or a seasoned executive, I highly recommend reading Karyn Twaronite's article to better understand how simply asking your colleagues how they're doing can be surprisingly impactful. https://lnkd.in/gD_qbEDT

People leave their jobs way before the day they actually put their notice in. Reflecting on the "why" behind employees leaving, I believe it's often due to negative judgments and biases that chip away at our sense of belonging and feeling of psychological safety at work. Feeling judged, even unconsciously, makes us feel undervalued, suppressing our authenticity and potential and striking at our ability to truly belong. This isn't just about feeling disrespected; it's about the profound impact on our well-being and engagement at work. As leaders, we want our teams to stay and flourish, but we must be aware of the signals we send. Let's collaborate to create environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and genuinely connected. Love to hear thoughts on this! #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceBelonging #InclusiveLeadership #AuthenticityAtWork #EmpathyInLeadership
