🌍𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐬: 𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡-𝐍𝐆𝐎 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 At Paeradigms, we are excited to share insights from the recent workshop "What does research offer to development NGOs and vice versa?" hosted by the Internationales Zentrum für Nachhaltige Entwicklung (IZNE) at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. This event was part of the online workshop series by the Swiss Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE_CH) and formed part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the EADI European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes. The workshop highlighted the immense potential of research-NGO collaborations. By combining methodological rigour with practical insights, these partnerships can significantly enhance development interventions. Researchers bring analytical skills and data-driven approaches, while NGOs contribute invaluable local knowledge and community connections. However, several challenges need to be addressed to bridge the gap between these two sectors: 🔹 Communication and cultural barriers: Clear communication and mutual understanding are essential. Researchers and NGO practitioners often operate in different professional cultures with distinct languages and terminologies. 🔹 Differing incentive structures: Academia's "publish or perish" culture can clash with the immediate, tangible impact focus of NGOs. Aligning these priorities is crucial for successful collaborations. 🔹 Funding constraints: Limited funding specifically designed for joint projects between researchers and NGOs poses a significant hurdle. 🔹 Power dynamics and equity: More equitable partnerships are needed where both researchers and NGOs are involved in all stages of the project, from conceptualisation to dissemination. Despite these challenges, the workshop participants were optimistic and discussed potential solutions, including: 📍 Creating dedicated spaces for interaction 💰 Developing targeted funding mechanisms ⚖️ Aligning incentive systems 🤝 Promoting equity in partnerships 📢 Enhancing communication and capacity building At PAERADIGMS, we believe that beyond that, tackling complex global challenges often benefit from taking a broader approach, also incorporating industry amd policymakers to the table (which, of course, requires the relevant multi-stakeholder platforms). By fostering meaningful collaboration across these sectors, we can address "wicked problems" more effectively. Let’s continue to bridge these worlds and work together for a more equitable and sustainable future. Time to put together the best set of materials to share with ResearchOps Community next Thursday! #InternationalResearchOps Over the past 16+ years, I've worked with various clients (with different needs, setups and so on) to help them understand their customers and markets on a global scale (47 countries and counting). I've collaborated with teams of various forms from every continent (though, admittedly, I still dream of a project with some penguins down in Antarctica! 🐧) My research experiences weren't always smooth sailing. I've faced my fair share of tough challenges and surprises along the way. One common myth I keep running into is that doing cross-cultural research is as easy as hiring a local team, adding a translator, and going through the motions. But in reality, there’s so much more to it. There are a lot more nuances in it which would affect the quality of your research output and outcome. The ups, downs and hard-earned lessons from these experiences have been invaluable. That's why I decided to write 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 📖 so I can share these learnings and insights with others. My goal is to help others sidestep the mistakes I made and to help them minimise the challenges they might face when planning and executing international research, so they can get deeper, more accurate insights about international markets and local audiences. If this sounds interesting to you, I’d love for you to join the session! I’ll be leaving plenty of time for Q&A, so feel free to bring along any research challenges you’re facing! 📅 When: 21st Nov, 4 PM GMT 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/ePbHm7-C (This session will be recorded and shared on the ReOp's Vimeo channel later - I'll share the link once it's available) Hope to see you there! 😊 #researchops #internationalresearch #culturalisation
We just posted the registration link to our next community call on Slack! Chui Chui Tan will be sharing a structured, step-by-step approach to cross-cultural research, emphasizing key nuances and common challenges researchers face in multicultural settings. Chui Chui, Director of Beyō Global, has worked with a wide range of clients, helping them gain deep insights into people from various cultural contexts and backgrounds. Join us on 21st November at 4pm UTC, as she shares her expertise in navigating the complexities of large-scale international research projects.

1moIn South Africa the #NagoyaProtocol have been used to regulate and marganilise Indigenous SMEs out of their business opportunities. INDIGENOUS SMEs & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY https://www.wipo.int/sme/en/traditional-knowledge.html For all companies small, medium or large, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to #IntellectualProperty (IP). SMEs run by Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs) can, however, face additional challenges and concerns as they begin to navigate the IP system.
