Shusssh: Don't remind Health New Zealand that there are 80,000 people in Central Otago Queenstown Lakes Districts. And 130,000 in Dunedin. If they heard that they would shift some staff. Wouldn't they? Example: Of Health New Zealand's 335 staff providing community mental health staff they keep most in Dunedin. Away from here. So: 3000 people living in Central Otago Queenstown Lakes have to share a each specialist mental health worker. And only 450 Dunedin people have to share each specialist worker. Relocate these services? Would they?

The government’s plan to place job coaches in mental health hospitals to offer CV and interview tips raises serious concerns. While employment can benefit mental health, hospitals should prioritise recovery during acute mental health crises, not job preparation. "Following recovery, people may seek advice to help them find employment and we know that the VCSE mental health sector offers many services that can support this. The sector is a crucial part of the mental health system providing support to over 8 million people in England and Wales and takes a holistic approach in its services. It is essential the Government and the NHS works closely with the VCSE mental health provider sector to ensure that those needing support are receiving it in a safe and timely manner." Working with organisations shows me that the mental health support is 90% reactive rather than preventive and supportive. SONAS London give staff the tools they need as a preventive measure to cope when work gets tough, we pride ourselves with our programs enabling staff to get over past trauma or current and align with new ways of viewing situations by creating a safe space and teaching staff clinically back theories which enables teams to work in a much more safe place mentally. The first step is to acknowledge there is a problem, understanding the problem can always be fixed with the correct personable support and learning. Its not always about offering reactive support sometimes this support is ofturn to late for staff and creates bigger issues for the organisation. Lets book a teams to discuss [email protected] #workforcedevlopment #workforcechange #staffelevation #SONASLONDON

A survey by the Institute of Health and Social Care Management has revealed that 90% of social care workers don’t believe that they receive the recognition that they deserve. 90%! How can we expect the social care system to work well if this is how care workers are feeling? Ensuring that staff feel both recognised and appreciated for the work they do has a positive effect on the way they feel which directly impacts their mental health and well-being. One way to ensure that employees feel recognised is using TAP, the social thanking platform: https://lnkd.in/dUudcQ93

The Health and Social Care Sector is on its knees - for many reasons, but here's the one I will address today and one I feel very passionate about. I have seen a huge increase in Registered Managers wanting to change roles or even leave the industry completely, slammed by the stress they bare, they can no longer move forwards. I have my own theories on why this is happening but what are yours? I see this not only from a recruitment perspective but as a Director of large care agency - something needs to change, we need to change. mental health care has moved on leaps and bounds from when I first entered the industry, however, those at the top often get overlooked and managers are expected to just... deal with it.. a sad but very real perspective of some companies I have known #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #caresector #ofsted #cqc

Lawcare in the UK have seen a 24% increase in the number of legal professionals contacting Lawcare for support. This is based on the number of contacts from January to August 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. Legal professionals are overwhelmed and stressed, and these mental health concerns can be exacerbated or caused by the work environment. These are tough times for legal professionals adjusting to a post pandemic world, against a backdrop of global financial crisis, with heavy workloads, unrealistic targets and a workplace culture where there is still stigma about being open and honest about your mental health. The increased demand for support from LawCare reflects the increasing pressures of day-to-day life in the law and the lack of protection of mental health in the legal workplace. #medicolegal #healthcare #mlsm #mentalhealth

Yesterday I participated in a panel discussion at work hosted by our Access Employee Resource Group (ERG). For context, I am a co-lead of the Access ERG and our main goals are to create a safe community, increase awareness and education, and make systemic changes for our employees who are disabled, neurodivergent and live with mental health challenges. Over the years, I have grown more comfortable sharing my story and my experiences as someone who identifies with our Access community. Thanks to a few years of therapy, incredible doctors, and my support network of family and friends, I’m not just comfortable sharing, I truly enjoy speaking out and being open, honest and vulnerable. I’ve learned to stand up for myself. I’ve gained confidence to implement boundaries. All in the hope that it encourages others to do the same for themselves. If I can do it, you can do it. That type of thing. During the panel, someone asked what we recommend to those who aren’t as confident. I remember responding saying that it definitely takes time to build that confidence and to lean on their support network, including myself. What I forgot to mention was that, although I am confident, it doesn’t mean I don’t still have anxiety every time I ask for accommodation. It doesn’t mean I don’t fear judgment or discrimination. And it doesn’t mean I still don’t second guess myself in any situation. It’s exhausting. It’s stress inducing. And sometimes it drives people (or jobs) away. But I won’t let it stop me from living. I won’t let it prevent others from enjoying life. That’s why I’m confident. If I can do it, you can do it. We can do it. #DisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth #AccessForAll

We provide all our employees with a Bupa Employee Assistance Programme. Benefits like this go a long way toward showing appreciation to your team and providing them with a really valuable service. You may have noticed that I’m quite passionate about improving mental health. This is one part of how we as a company do that for our employees. This is a 24/7 service that’s fully confidential and can offer support via telephone, online and face-to-face, and includes: 📞 A telephone helpline ⚖️ A specialist legal helpline 💰 A specialist financial helpline 👨👩👧 A specialist family care helpline 💬 Structured short-term counselling 💻 Online cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) 📚 Online resources I firmly believe in looking after your people as an employer because everyone deserves to feel appreciated and access the support they need. With the NHS in crisis and access to mental health support extremely limited and difficult, providing something like this can be a lifesaver for an individual. If I want people to deliver exceptional work with a smile to maintain our standards, it’s not just about finding the right people. It’s then about supporting those people in whatever ways you can to enable them to do their best work. What have been the best benefits or support you’ve had as an employee or provided as an employer? #EmployeeBenefits #BupaEAP #Construction #MentalHealth #DefectRepair
