Last week, we celebrated the opening of The People’s Exhibition, a new free exhibition celebrating the legacy of the 1951 Festival of Britain 👏 15 Future Exhibition Makers, aged 13 – 18, worked collaboratively with archivists, exhibition creators and subject experts to build an exhibition of new perspectives to the festival, whilst learning new skills in archiving, curation and exhibition-making. This curated collection of articles, programmes, photographs and objects encourages a new look at the Britain of the 20th century and today. Where do we go from here? 📅 29 Nov 2024 – 28 Nov 2025 📍 Archive Studio, Level 2 of the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre 👉 Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/d-j3MVG5 📷 Pete Woodhead

The digital "Sacred Service" launches today! https://lnkd.in/gN5z7Nyr This innovative online experience brings 11 artifacts of WWI chaplains directly to your screen, offering an intimate look at faith on the battlefield. With the interactive 3D models we've incorporated into the exhibition you can examine rare WWI chaplain artifacts up close -- from anywhere in the world. Rotate, zoom, and explore items like a chaplain's field Communion set or a trench crucifix in great detail. The exhibition "Sacred Service" goes beyond the typical war narrative, diving into the spiritual, mental, and emotional support chaplains provided to service members facing unimaginable challenges. In the physical space, National WWI Museum and Memorial has created a deeply moving experience that highlights the human -- and spiritual -- side of the Great War. This digital encounter provides a snippet (11 from the exhibit total of 200+ objects) of that physical exhibition. This content, unlike the physical exhibition, is free, accessible 24/7, and will live on long past the current physical exhibition's run. It doesn't take long to explore the items and view the exhibition; it was intentionally designed to be viewable and not exhaustive. It also doesn't take much time or many objects to get the story across -- the courage, faith, and humanity in times of conflict that these men provided is palpable through the artifacts that remain, even on screen.

"Alter Echoes" out now! My latest project just released at Curated by Girls. “Alter Echoes,” a collaborative project by photographer Shari Annabell Marks and Movement Director Marie Zechiel, explores the dynamic nature of identity. Through four chapters, the work delves into diverse personalities, presenting them like museum statues. It challenges the idea of a fixed identity, instead celebrating the multiple versions of ourselves that emerge over time. Shari and Marie’s collabo-ration offers a thought-provoking perspective on the ongoing evolution of the self. https://lnkd.in/erK_rja5

We’re delighted to share Coastwatch's upcoming event, unveiling the 1st Survey Results on Marine Litter. This event will bring together experts, stakeholders, and dedicated volunteers to discuss findings and explore actionable solutions for tackling marine litter in Ireland. The event includes: 🍴 Lunch & Launch by Minister Ossian Smyth at the TCD Pavilion, starting at 1:00 PM. 🐚 Workshop at the M17 Museum Building, where survey insights will be analysed, fostering collaborative discussions on impactful solutions for cleaner coasts. The Coastwatch Survey, a flagship initiative since 1987, leverages the power of citizen science, gathering vital data on coastal conditions across Ireland and Europe. The data is collected by hundreds of volunteers participating every year in the Coastwatch Survey, giving their time and energy for free. By combining volunteer observations with modern tools like GIS and water testing, this survey paints a crucial picture of our coastal environment. Thanks to the Coastwatch ( Irish Coastal Environment Group - Coastwatch) for the Irish Survey. Solo Exhibition by Deborah Dicembre 27 May - 11 June 2024 'Master Peace’ - Art is the great connector, which is why , I believe , it is so healing. This exhibit , ‘Master Peace’, is about alchemising our pain and primary wounds into peace and progress. If we do that in a healthy way, we can live in peace with ourselves and with others. When you’re comfortable in your own skin , you are more pleasant to be around. When you haven’t dealt with your wounds they bleed out over your life and over others. As an abstract expressionist , I give shape , body , colour and form to ethereal or non bodied concepts such as emotions, energy , thoughts and experiences . How we process our pain and primary wounds effects our ability to live in peace and in healthy relationship with ourselves and others. Open Daily 10am-4pm

NYC World Trade Center Visit Depending on your age, you probably have memories of where you were and what you were doing on the morning of 9/11/2001. However, those memories, as is only natural, have probably faded, unless maybe you were actually there that day. I had an opportunity to visit the 9/11 museum last weekend in NYC. And my memoires had in fact faded. The museum resurrected those memories and all that that event entailed: how individuals responded – whether first responders, people in the buildings, the passengers and crew who made sure flight 93 did not reach its target – the physical destruction and deaths, and so much more. It was so powerful. It is a remarkable remembrance of a terrible time and loss, and a testament to what can be the best (and worst) aspects of humankind. And sadly, the world continues to suffer from some of the worst nature of humankind. However, I strongly encourage everyone who has the opportunity to visit the 9/11 museum, but have not yet done so, to make the visit. Whether you have memories of that day or not. It is well worth it. https://lnkd.in/ef6qWmGA https://lnkd.in/ehYQx_yr (Scroll down for video - a short video w images and voices of the day) https://lnkd.in/euw2fJzN (History Channel reviews the days chronology and events)

In our virtual seminar on 31 Oct Richard Hawkes looks at the changing nature of the work of the independent paper conservator from traditional restoration of prints and watercolours to the present dominance of the contemporary art market. The challenges include large, machine-made papers and the use of inherently unstable materials. Richard Hawkes has been developing the use of modern, digital technology to create archival-quality facsimiles of documents and manuscripts for use in museum displays. The increasing realism and detail achievable means that light sensitive materials can be replaced with copies – thereby allowing longer periods of display. The possible future of this area and the ethical considerations are discussed. https://lnkd.in/dmb8CQYC
