Learnings from Sustainability LIVE London   After 2 intense days of screening sustainability from multiple perspectives, I was concerned to hear that there might be a certain fatigue when people listen to that topic.   Sure, right now it might be attractive and fancier to organize conferences about AI (not only as enabler for sustainability). But this wouldn’t change how we hand-over our planet to the next generations. Sure, for the past years, may be even decades, we were hoping that everyone starts doing enough on a voluntary basis, which wasn’t the case. But I promise you that in airfreight things will get a different speed as of 2025, due to a lot of legislation-rules kicking in and more to come year by year. Sure, it’s still a very long way to go, sometimes complex and calculation-methods are not always meaningful (e.g. PAX- vs. FRT-calculations). But, isn’t it a great feeling if you succeed to organize the same shipment with only half of the carbon-footprint, or even less?   Developing sustainable solutions is not only an obligation for all of us. "Proud to have completed the Innovation and Sustainability course with Saylor Academy! This program gave me insights into sustainable practices and innovative strategies for addressing environmental challenges.

It is clear that addressing post-harvest management is a crucial component of any strategy to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability. By investing more resources into efficient harvesting and storage practices, we can minimize food waste and the associated environmental impact. This means utilizing technology and innovation to improve storage and transportation methods, adopting more sustainable packaging, and implementing better supply chain management practices.

TSC and Ecolabeling initiatives nominated for WUR impact award! Wageningen UR introduced a price for the program that has the most impact on society. We are nominated with our work to develop global sustainability standards for food through The Sustainability Consortium (https://lnkd.in/eAGdVNHe ; Business to retail) and Ecolabeling ( https://lnkd.in/e_MxWdMg ; Business to consumer). By creating and implementing harmonized impact reporting on sustainability for all food, we make it much easier for all decision makers (consumers, buyers of retailers, financial industry, food processing, farmers) to take sustainability into account in decision making and the right incentives for continuous improvement. This creates fair competition on sustainability so that markets can stimulate a survival of the most sustainable.
