In these times of Red States/Blue States, I'm reminded that I really miss baseball. Judge! Ohtani! Do it again! Anywho... I thought I'd color states with American League teams red, and states with National League teams blue. That evolved into market territories because many states don't have MLB teams... ...but even more states have a Minor League team so... Two maps! How has Major League Baseball divided up the country, and how has Minor League Baseball done it. My favorite takeaway? The Giants/Dodgers rivalry rages on in Hawaii! For the MLB the Dodgers (and Angels) have sway over Hawaii, but for the MiLB the San Jose Giants rule the islands! Baseball fans, you know about the pitch clock... The MLB last year added a pitch clock and, in my opinion, it has made the game much more enjoyable to watch. However, I have heard concerns about a correlation between the pitch clock and pitcher injuries. Check out this article for more information. #MLB #baseball #pitchclock #sportsnews

23-year-old Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki, a star pitcher for the Chiba Lotte Marines in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), has officially been posted for MLB teams to sign. Sasaki is set to become the most cost-effective elite starting pitcher available this offseason due to his international amateur status. Being under 25, he must sign a rookie deal that pays the MLB minimum for three seasons, followed by three years of arbitration before reaching unrestricted free agency—mirroring Shohei Ohtani’s early MLB trajectory. Last offseason, Yoshinobu Yamamoto was posted and signed by the Dodgers. As some may recall, I did an analysis back then aiming to predict how Yamamoto would fare in the world’s best baseball league. Using that same logic, but adding Yamamoto’s predicted and actual data to my dataset for the model, how is Sasaki projected to perform in the MLB? https://lnkd.in/eE3wF3eV

When you ignore talent because of unfounded bias, like skin color, gender or any non-merit based reason, you miss out on possibilities that can alter the course of your business. Baseball's recent combination of Negro League statistics with MLB's record book tells the full story of a great sport with a terrible past. We applaud Major League Baseball (MLB) for recognizing talent that didn't have the full opportunity they deserve. This is taking the first step in a more inclusive environment, which we've seen them focus on in previous years as they fight for gender equality in the front office. At Grant Wagner, we serve businesses the best talent, regardless of skin color, orientation, neurodiversity, or ethnicity. We present the talent, something sports is typically at the forefront of. Thank you baseball for getting this right.
Today, Negro League statistics will officially be integrated into the Major League Baseball database. Josh Gibson will now become MLB's all-time record holder in multiple categories, including: • Batting average (.372) • Slugging percentage (.718) • OPS (1.177)

There’s been a lot of talk this week about velocity in Baseball today. Specifically the idea that guys should pitch at lower velocities and focus on command to prolong their careers… From my experiences in pro baseball, Low velo does not mean “command guy”. Any successful example of a low velocity pitcher in MLB will usually possess some sort of outlier stuff (in forms of FB movement or a spammable off speed pitch) that allows for that lower velocity. The idea of a 90 mph arm with average metrics that dots corners and mixes for success is a myth. All MLB/MiLB pitchers know this. Which is why they have to sell out for stuff. To be fair, a lot of this in my opinion is because of the strike zone and the baseballs. I do believe with reliable grip and an expanded strike zone (1990-early 2000s conditions), a guy dotting spots and mixing pitches at lower velocities could have tremendous success. But now that the ball actually has to go over the plate… eh. Hitters are really good.
