There is a movement spreading to make those who work in libraries liable for the content of books. Sigh! Not the bookstores, publishers, editors or authors, who, by the way, have been persecuted, jailed or even killed, across the world and throughout time, for the stories that they share. As library people can only read so many books, and we'd love to read them all, the question is "how do we figure out what books are good candidates for our collection?" We rely on the opinions of others. Publishers will always share a resume of the book and maybe even offer a passage to consult, and will help their authors present their books at book launches, book fairs and so on. Library associations may get a preview of a book, but there are also advisory committees and respected book reviewers who make it their life work to read as many books as they can and offer opinions or evaluations of their readings (on a de la chance d'avoir Sophie Lit ). Social cataloguing websites such as Goodreads or Babelio (https://www.babelio.com/), where everyday readers resume, quote and share opinions on books, or magazines that specialize in books such as Lire (https://www.lire.fr), are also a way of getting insight. And you can also acquire books that have received accolades, such h as the Governor General's Literary Awards ( https://ggbooks.ca/). But what every library needs, besides all these research tools, is a strong collection policy.
