I took part in Food Tech Congress in Warsaw. It was a very insightful event, with over 800 participants from more than 40 countries. For the first time I was part of the jury for start ups competition. I was voting in two tracks, New Proteins and Food Waste. Such companies I had a chance to meet during the event are part of the food the business at which I do not look at so closely everyday. I saw over 30 pitches in total and all of them brought a good value that I believe could be very useful in the food value chains. I really liked there were many B2B proposals that were addressing problems of big business value. Congratulations to all the winners! My personal favorites were: - RDI - produces irrigation and fertigation systems that allow water use that is self-regulated by plants, they already have impressive results even in desert environments, systems are undersurfaced and multiseasonal; - Perfat Technologies - develop and produces value added fat solutions for the food industry, they transform vegetable oils into solid fats that could e.g. replace butter in food industry, their processes are purely physical, very impressive; - Mimica - they make Bump, which is a temperature-sensitive cap or tag providing an accurate indication of freshness, so you do not need assume your worst-case scenario for expiration, I see it as something which could materially improve economics of fresh or chilled meat; - Rebread - adress bread waste, I like the value added offered which is in-house developed product technology which is then implemented for customers (could be e.g. bakeries or retail) with and advisory project
