It was great attending another series of plenary meetings this past week with fellow RTCA SC-147 members in Washington, DC to continue ACAS Xr MOPS and Cooperative Surveillance MOPS creation efforts and to discuss a potential revision to ACAS Xu MOPS! For those outside the aviation industry: RTCA works with the FAA to develop comprehensive, industry-vetted, and endorsed standards that can be used as means of compliance with FAA regulations. So what does this mean for my company (ACSS) and me? I have the opportunity to influence the future of aviation technology with other industry professionals and ensure my company's and customers' perspectives are represented! SC-147 usually meets online weekly/bi-weekly for roughly an hour to discuss smaller action items, but our in-person, day-long plenary meetings allow sufficient time to facilitate some of the most collaborative discussions regarding system safety (e.g., through software stress testing discussions) and performance (e.g., through low-speed/hovering maneuver discussions). Stay tuned this year and next for the creation and updates to the collision avoidance MOPS at rtca.org! #RTCA #Aviation #Regulations #Standards #ACAS #TCASII Acronym List: RTCA - Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics SC - Special Committee ACAS Xr - Airborne Collision Avoidance System for Rotorcraft ACAS Xu - Airborne Collision Avoidance System for Unmanned Aircraft Systems MOPS - Minimum Operational Performance Standards FAA - Federal Aviation Administration ACSS - Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) is a significant concern in aviation, particularly in the context of Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive (ESDS) devices. ESD occurs when two objects with different electrical potentials come into contact or close proximity, resulting in the sudden flow of electricity between them. In aviation, ESD can pose serious risks to electronic components and systems, including avionics, navigation equipment, and communication systems. If this is an area you would like some training in for yourself personally or for your team, you can purchase these from our online store. #ESD #ESDonline #Electrostaticsensitivedevices #ESDtraining #aviationcourses #aviationtraining #onlinetraining

Tuesday Tech Praise! 💡 The Movable Virtual Defect Detection Training System was designed to give maintainers access to test material as a training refresher. ARCS solution utilizes commercial Augmented Reality to generate synthetic data, simulating the presence of defects during training. This technology proves helpful for trainees as it allows the instructor to place synthetic defects on actual aircraft. The seamless display of the real equipment and synthetic and real results enables trainees to engage in more efficient and practical training. Could this solution help your team? Please find more information on our website and contact us! #trainingsolution #technology #augmentedreality #data #training #efficiency #effectiveness #AR #ARCS #ARCSAviation

"Being a pilot isn’t just about knowing how things work—it’s about being able to apply that knowledge when it matters most. That’s where Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) really shines. It helps us take what we learn in the classroom and turn it into practical skills we use every day in the cockpit. CBTA is all about building confidence and making sure we’re truly ready for anything, whether it’s handling a complex system or navigating an unexpected situation. It’s not just memorizing checklists—it’s about knowing how to adapt and make the right call under pressure. At the end of the day, flying is about more than theory. It’s about being prepared, being skilled, and being ready to act when it counts. CBTA gives us the tools to do that. Let’s turn knowledge into action. #CBTA #PilotTraining #SkillsInAction #Humanfactor #Resilience #Aviation
