AI Insights at a Glance: Part 3 Our last post, and it's time to share a couple of stories. Richard and I take you through two recent experiences of implementing GenAI tools, and what we learned from them. In one project, we used GenAI to simplify a complex service that was driving a lot of 'failure demand' - i.e. calls from citizens saying 'I don't understand what I'm being asked to do here'. My takeaway was how broadly applicable these tools could be across many Government services; something that I think governments need to get better at. In another project developing a GenAI decision support tool, Richard's big takeaway was about the importance of involving all stakeholders throughout development. See more in the video. Thanks for following along, and would love to hear from others - have you implemented GenAI in your government service yet? Speaking with the Ottawa Citizen last week about AI and our world-class public servants, my message was clear: the federal public service has a lot to gain from embracing AI as a tool for the public good. ➡️ To truly unlock its potential, the government needs to focus on building trust, upskilling its workforce, and growing domestic AI capacity. If used responsibly, AI will allow the government to provide better services to Canadians, create much-needed economic growth through agile procurement and help public servants work smarter by encouraging innovation. Perhaps most importantly, AI can create better outcomes for Canadians and strengthen their trust in government itself. Canada’s proud public service should take steps to strengthen civic engagement and ensure we don’t fall behind in adopting these critical tools.
