. The debate over Vance's controversial 'Fact of Life' comment on school shootings has ignited a fierce exchange between the Trump and Harris camps. Vance's spokesperson argues that his remarks were taken out of context, emphasizing that the issue is more complex than a single statement can capture. Meanwhile, Harris’s team maintains that school shootings are preventable and calls for comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of students and educators. The clash underscores the urgent need for a unified approach to address this critical issue. What are your thoughts on how we can make our schools safer? #SchoolSafety #Education #PublicSafety #PolicyDebate

The word "After" never ceases to amaze me when it comes to #SchoolSafety. Have we still not figured out how to proactively prepare for #SchoolViolence? Our team's analysis found that over 70% of school safety enhancements involve simple, low-cost strategies that could be implemented immediately. Yet, headlines continue to highlight the need for action. #Amazing. #SchoolSecurity #SafetyAssessments https://lnkd.in/exKrPDce #ABCNews Georgia State Senate - Georgia Department of Education

AMERICA'S SCHOOL SYSTEMS - KILLING FIELDS Let's be honest - there is a segment in US society that just doesn't give a damn about school safety and security. It's someone else's problem. That should really disturb you. This perverse mindset won't change until we hold officials criminally and civilly liable; and remove them from office. Whistleblowers need more encouragement - not wrongful dismissal from the classroom. School boards matter and must act. Silence is complicity. May all lost Rest In Peace and know that some of us won't let your demise be in vain. https://lnkd.in/e_nxM38V

They have worked to pass this amazing legislation in 5 states with many more pending, and also strive or Federal adoption. Keep it going! #SafeSchools, #TexasSchools, #Centegix

I remember when you might say “ the kids got gunned down”. A far more accurate description of what happened. I am so sick and tired of saying we can’t solve this problem. If we keep saying there is nothing we can do about this, we are just lying to ourselves. The answer is simple, require guns be registered and only allow people with permits, who have been trained in gun safety, to have them. I know all the reasons why this cannot be done. I don’t care. Our children’s lives are more important. The type of people we choose to be is more important. The Constitution now means whatever result the majority wants it to mean. All I know is that when we fail our youth, we have failed. #guncontrol

If you ever wonder why academics have to disclose conflicts of interest, have their work double-blind, peer-reviewed, and sign ethical agreements before publishing a paper, this is a stark reminder. The Supreme Court made a ruling based on a biased, faulty study that will shape gun legislation for years to come. Leading questions, misinterpreted results, obfuscated reporting, and funded by a pro-gun organization for a pro-gun legal argument, this is a complete breakdown at the intersection of higher education and the justice system. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but this makes me want to review a paper! (EICs and AEs, I am mostly kidding).

📚 It's Safe School Awareness and Readiness Season [Former Safe Schools Center Coordinator - Los Angeles County Office of Education All in quotes below aside, whenever there is a politician speaking on laws against so-called "assault weapons," assault weapons start flying off the shelves. On-line stores had several (midrange quality) riffle ads with the bold red-colored letters: "Out of Stock." That's a sign. Be aware - this is the fall season, and a season for complete nut-cases (clinically speaking) to start running amok. The heavy increase in buying guns and rifles now, plus company give-aways, personal gifts, and illegal circulation withstanding... tis' the season to be mindful on school grounds, and in neighborhoods. * Current global nation conflicts are teaching a new generation how to minimize and extinguish life. "Some organizations are working to reduce firearm deaths in the U.S. through violence-prevention programs and lobbying. Others suggest that school administrations and teachers should be diligent in noticing suspicious behavior and that students should feel confident that their school will take action." (online resource) The AI overview concurs: "According to available data, most school shootings tend to occur in the fall months, with a noticeable peak around September and October." #safeschools #gunlaws #assaultweapons #gunownership

SCHOOL SHOOTING? THE PRO-LIFE RESPONSE . . . . . . is a cold response: "It's a fact of life!" Maybe, if Republicans really were pro-life, school shootings would not be a "fact of life". I have been wondering for a long time how to reconcile being pro-life, demanding an end to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and abortion, with school shootings and the Republican opposition to gun control/regulation. Maybe it is as simple as Republicans requiring more children be born so that they can be targets in public schools while the children of the Republican politicians attend private schools. Remember that while public schools can't control guns (and Republicans want to arm public school teachers), private schools can. If your only solution to a significant problem is thoughts and prayers, the only rationale for otherwise doing nothing can only be the most cynical rationale. In this case, the most cynical rationale is that Republicans need regular mass shootings so that they can then campaign on fear, crime and punishment, and the need to arm all Americans beginning in childhood. Remember to thank your local Republican politicians for yet another gun-caused death that could have been avoided with implementation of common sense gun controls. I certainly say to every Republican who comes knocking on my door seeking my vote "Thank you for killing yet another child with your thoughts and prayers." https://lnkd.in/e-FTXtNP

As we digest yet another school shooting as a nation, the 218th time a gun was fired or brandished at a school so far in 2024, I think I’m most shocked by how well primed we are, as a nation, for accepting violence. A few weeks ago, our presumed progressive presidential candidate made a promise to the country that we will have “the most lethal fighting force in the world” - words that should send chills down our spines but that were isntead met with cheer and applause. How do we function in a country where we say we hold education to be a tool for democracy and equity all while we cannot ensure the most basic physical safety of our teachers and students? How do we function when we are told that a political campaign can be both about joy and a lethal military? How do we function when we get ads for back to school gear in between news of children shooting other children at schools? The cognitive dissonance is enough to shut down any thinking and feeling brain. And yet we are primed, daily, to accept this as normal. Mass loss of life through violent means, whether at home or abroad, is not normal. Profits over people does not lend itself well to mental health. Arguing about policies and amendments does little to heal us or calm the anxious state of our collective consciousness. The first step toward healing might be the simple acknowledgement of how normalized violence is in our culture, and how that normalization has dehumanized us. But how do we do that when the only way to move forward is to compartmentalize it away, and pretend? #educationinamerica #schoolshootings

Mark is spot on here. We need to build preventative measures. Let’s start with confronting the issue of ideological framing. Kids must be taught about online rabbit holes: ISIS, eating disorders, neo-nazis, glorification of prior shooters, gender identity, etc. We must begin building cognitive resilience early.

Threat assessment is growing in America in response to school shootings, but what if it’s done poorly, or with too much emphasis on punitive measures? School shootings are only a pretext to get white support to take assault rifles away from law abiding citizens, and leave us unable to resist them + whip up fear against white facists. The left only talks about occasional shootings with assault rifles with white victims, when many more shootings are committed by minorities (mostly black) using handguns. In Chicago alone in the 1st half of this year, there have been more than 1200 shootings. The 2nd half of a year usually has more shootings than the 1st. Over labor day weekend in Chicago alone, 31 people were shot, and 5 died. Of course, with handguns by minorities. But the left never talks about it, Why focus on a few cases of assault rifle shootings? Some mainstream media fuel the liberal narrative by selectively posting almost exclusively pictures of black students and faculty, when the student and faculty population is mixed race.
