𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗪, 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘 ♻️ 🏘️ Ahead of the General Election on 4 July, we are calling on the government to prioritise building a sustainable future.  To create a greener future, we are asking for a priority-led and funded 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 to upgrade the nation’s ageing housing stock and enhance its resilience to climate change. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 🔝 Government must prioritise retrofit planning. 🔄 Align all sustainability initiatives and funding. 🏗 Ensure coordination supports the plan's goals. 🌱 Enforce tight sustainability standards. 👷♂️ Promote specialised retrofit training. If you plan to attend the Futurebuild Conference next week, be sure to catch TEP Associate Thomas Young, who will be presenting twice during the three-day event at the ExCel in London. On Tuesday, March 5th at 2:15pm, Tom will represent Green Roof Organisation (GRO), to discuss how Green/Blue/BioSolar roofs deliver Biodiversity Net Gain for developments whilst complying with Building Regulations, especially regarding fire performance and health and safety in a rapidly evolving policy landscape. The following day, at 11:30 am, Tom will represent TEP, delving into domestic rainwater management solutions starting in the UK and expanding internationally. He will explore UK solutions using green roofs and self-irrigation before discussing other parts of the world where severe climate change impacts have prompted individuals to pursue solutions that may become the norm here in the future. Most nation’s climate plans (NDCs – Nationally Determined Contributions) and policies are overlooking something extremely big: the mitigation and adaptation potential of the built environment. That’s why we’re currently developing an NDC Scorecard for Sustainable Buildings to support and encourage every country to #BeBoldOnBuildings in their NDC submissions, due next year.   The Scorecard tool will allow all policymakers, Green Building Councils and others to assess and compare their countries’ NDCs, and reveal where further action is necessary to increase the ambition and effectiveness of their NDCs and national policies so they are putting the sector on a trajectory for 1.5ºC.   WorldGBC is co-developing the tool with our network, including Green Building Council Brasil, Consejo Colombiano de Construcción Sostenible (CCCS), Egypt Green Building Council (Egypt GBC), Green Building Council Nigeria and Philippine Green Building Council, alongside local stakeholders including governments, to bolster local action that delivers on global priorities. As we begin #BuildingToCOP29, it is absolutely critical that the next batch of #NDCs accelerates the transition and closes the gap to 1.5°C to deliver on the goals of the #ParisAgreement.
