If you are an eCom owner struggling to make the SCALE your FB ad spent Here are the 3 crucial KPIs that you should be looking at to optimize your ads and maximize their efficiency We update them daily and using for multiple 8&9fig clients to guide our decision-making 1. MER, or marketing efficiency ratio is our directional metric It tells you what % of the overall budget you are spending on advertising, combining all of your channels spend - FB, google, maybe Tiktok and Snapchat. Based on the client's needs - it ranges from 20 to 35. That’s the number we first have in mind when optimizing and we track it on a monthly basis. Of course, you are here dependent on other traffic sources, meaning > Even if FB is great, but MER is bad, we are not scaling until Google or TT decrease, because business is more important than a single channel. We are an extension of the client's team, and we act that way There are some exceptions to this when people are tracking aMER, or acquisition MER, but MER is usually the main metric. 2. Shopify. When it comes to Shopify numbers, we are tracking. a) Revenue > First yesterday's numbers to see how the day ended > Then today's numbers to see how are we pacing through the day. b) Conversion rate > We also check CR daily, just to make sure we are on the right track due to the CR effect on FB Having clients in different time zones makes you track how the store is actually trending to make better decisions. Other useful metrics in Shopify that I glance every now and then is AOV & returning customer rate, but those are mostly stable unless you have some big sale events or new product launches. 3. FB ROAS + 3rd party tracker ROAS We then check what the FB dashboard says + what NB/TW says We check if there’s a discrepancy or if those are aligned. The majority of the decision is based on a tracker, but FB can still provide some inputs, especially with some server-side tracking tools like Converge which are sending data back to Facebook. We also check the difference between 1dc ROAS and 7dc1dv ROAS as well as between FB and 3rd party tracker. We try to understand if there’s a discrepancy, what caused it > Maybe an email was sent that caused FB to overattribute > Maybe Shopify has some issues so ROAS is bad because of that > Maybe exclusions weren't setup properly, so FB is going more after existing buyers, which is allowing Facebook to claim more view conversion. When optimizing we are switching between today, the last 3d, and the last 7d of data, but my sweet spot is today + last 4-5 days. It’s a good mix of historic and trending data. Making decisions is not anymore just one metric. It’s a combination of metrics! We have benchmarks for multiple checkpoints for all the stores we manage, so it’s easy to spot irregularities on a daily basis. TL;DR > MER - directional metric (monthly) > Shopify revenue - trending (yday, today) > ROAS - in FB and 3rd party tracker (today)
