How do you assess attention to detail in the hiring process? 12 years ago, while running my very first Vector office in Conroe, TX, I needed to hire Recruiting Assistants/Receptionists. One of the main duties required being able to read a script and follow clear directions. As I made my job post, I added very specific instructions: - Apply to the job post (READ CAREFULLY) - Call my google number at XXX-XXX-XXXX - Leave a voicemail stating your name and phone number TWO TIMES From there, it was very easy to narrow my candidate pool. Today, I do something a little similar and add "If interested, please reach out to me at (email address) with (Job Title) in the subject line." It's a small thing, but with hundreds of applicants applying each week, prioritizing those who follow direction makes my job a little easier.

Is a 'Service Desk' Title Better for Your Career Advancement? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gdBKV9pM #JobTitles #CareerGrowth #HelpdeskSupport #ServiceDesk Hey everyone! 😊 I hope you’re all doing well! So, I've got something on my mind and would love to get your thoughts. My department has recently gone through some leadership changes, and with that, we’re seeing some shifts in our job titles. I currently work as a Helpdesk Support Tier 1 and am hoping for a promotion soon! 🎉 Recently, the new leadership shared that our titles are changing to Service Desk and that we might be dropping the tier numbers. At first glance, this seems fine, but I can't shake the feeling that it's a bit odd. Here’s why: Familiarity: I used to work in retail, and my title there was Customer Service Desk Rep. So, the term “Service Desk” makes me feel like I’m back in that world. It's a little too familiar and casual for my liking. Role Perception: I understand that our responsibilities won’t change much, but I worry about how this title change might affect perceptions about our roles. Are we perceived as less specialized without the tier numbers? Now, the big question for me is: Is h...

Does anyone who used to work in the food service industry think about going back? Recently, I was hanging out with a friend I met at my last barista job. We talked about how we missed the fast-paced environment, recipe development, meeting new people constantly, and, frankly, better pay. She now works as an admin assistant, and I have a part-time, temp marketing job. With how rough this current market is, especially for new grads, I've debated going back to the service industry just to feel less stagnant. Has anyone else felt this way? #jobsearch #opentowork #serviceindustry

Part-time work may be the 🔑 to your job search strategy. I know, it's better for most people to have a full-time role, but there are some really good opportunities out there for part-time work. Plus, finding a part-time job could: ➡Reduce some of the stress of not having a job at all ➡Can give you some space to take your time looking for the 'right' full-time role ➡Give you the opportunity to learn something new Here are 5 examples of part-time Customer Service roles I found on FlexJobs: 🔸Weekend Customer Service Representative at Pink Callers 🔸Spanish and Bilingual Customer Service Representative at Omni Interactions 🔸Technical Service Specialist at RapidAI 🔸Customer Care Representative at BOSSCAT™ Home Services and Technologies 🔸Tier One Customer Support at ExecOnline These are just 5 of hundreds of part-time opportunities. Note how each of the job titles is slightly different. I always suggest when people are searching for a certain type of role, they use their key skills as keywords for the search and not only the job title (in this case Customer Service Representative). Titles come in many shapes and sizes, so, searching with keywords will help make sure you don't miss an opportunity that may be just right for you! #jobsearch #partimework #careers

I was a Front Desk Officer (FDO) when this picture was taken. I was a graduate 🎓 and had completed my master's programme, but I had no job. I applied for every job posting I saw, regardless of designation or location. Nothing came 😪. I launched a business called "Soup Affairs". I cooked all sorts of soup for working class ladies and bachelors who didn't have time to cook, so I made their job easier; all they had to do was reheat or microwave the bowl and prepare their preferred swallow when they arrived home in the evening. Cool, right? But I was not satisfied. I knew there was more to me, and something in corporate was calling my name 🤣. So I had a customer who appreciated my soups and told others about me; she is a core professional and rarely has time. She connected me to her cousin sister, who happens to be an experienced Human Resources Manager. So, one day, when I went to deliver soup to Mrs Tinu, I used the chance to inform her cousin that I was looking for a job if she had any openings. Months later, she sent me a message regarding an opening for a front desk officer and asked if I was interested, but when I said yes, she made it clear that she had two other applicants she would send there and would do nothing to influence the result. Her duty was to open the doors for me, and it was my responsibility to decide whether the door would remain open for me. I was clearly overqualified for the position, but I was eager to take it. The salary was 80 thousand naira, but I was willing to take it. The CEO asked me, "What is a master's degree holder looking for with a front desk job and not a managerial position?" My reply was: "To me, the designation doesn't matter as I believe it's an opportunity to learn and to bring value for the company." . I was sincere. I suppose he saw it and offered me the job. That position as a Front Desk Officer prepared me for a career in human resources. One decision. One opportunity. One moment. One door. You must gain experience for the "big job" you desire Most of the time, the places you gain experience from do not look like the office you want to work in. Still, every opportunity counts. Make the most of any chance that presents itself. Keep your certifications and degrees aside at times and focus on learning all you need to be productive, and efficient at your desired job because it will come. Experience, not certificates, will do the job. Have you read the CHAPTER 2 of my book?
