One man is missing from this video. One man who changed India's fortunes when it comes to chess. One man who catapulted India to the top of the world. Somehow, India would rarely make it to the top of the world when it came to any sports. Sportspeople were happy to get a job with Services or Railways, teams were full of quotas, regional clashes kept real talent from surfacing and poverty prevented the deserving from getting a chance. Except a few who beat the odds, India was ok with being mediocre. However, some of these people who beat the odds, went on make winning a habit. As a 80s kid (I am giving away my age 🥲), I grew up watching legends like Leander Paes, Mary Kom, Sachin Tendulkar, Vishwanathan Anand and others. They went on create legacies that changed our perceptions. We learnt that we could articulate ambitions of becoming the best in the world without being laughed at. Vishy Anand did even more. He set up the infrastructure, selected a bunch of amazing individuals, trained them to perfection. He passed on his genes, forged a culture and changed the fate of the country. India hunts as a pack in chess today and this culture will spread. Some will say Magnus Carlsen is the true champion and he did not play. That is for Magnus to think about. History will remember Gukesh. This is how cultures are forged. Relentless. Never accept mediocrity. Push your limits daily. To achieve that one fleeting moment of success after a decade of hard work. Not for everyone. Only for champions.
At this time, we only see the blooming flower in the form of victory. But, this victory has come after multiple failures, efforts and rejections. Its all about resilience and perseverance, which has helped him to stand out in the crowd. Hats off to his relentless struggle.
“Wonderfully said, Shayak Mazumder Gukesh D’s World Championship win is a testament to the legacy Anand built for Indian chess. Vishy’s vision and relentless efforts have inspired a new generation to chase greatness. Huge congratulations to Gukesh on this historic achievement!”
Of course the greatest of the lot who came out from the 1990s was Gopi
Vishy Anand didn't just win games; he built a culture of excellence in Indian chess, inspiring a new generation to hunt as a pack and dream of being the best in the world. A true champion and a game-changer for India!
Push your limits daily…..very well said 👏
I think it should be Samay Raina for sure 😉 But indeed a great post.
Years of hard work and consistent performance lands Gukesh in most memorable victorious moment for him and for the Bharath.
The sheer perfection and professionalism of both Gukesh and Ding , in understanding, acknowledging and accepting the final moments of the game is simply remarkable! #Kudos #Gukesh
