Attention business travelers who are American Airlines frequent flyers.
If your flights are booked through corporate travel partners (i.e. your company's contracted travel agency), your milage earning may be at risk. Effective May 1, only bookings made directly with American, through their airline partners, or preferred travel agencies would be eligible to earn miles. American has not yet announced which agencies are considered “preferred agencies."
As many business travelers do not have a choice of how the flights are booked, this should be very concerning (we all know those frequent flyer miles are a small perk for all the business travel and time away from home with family and friends).

Here's another way to look at this:
In 2023, over 40% of all airline tickets were sold by online agencies and travel advisors. If American cuts out those ticketing channels, do you think they'll be able to service consumer reservations in a timely manner? How about when you miss your connection due to a mechanical issue? Will they be able to help rebook you quickly and efficiently? For decades, travel agents and online agencies have booked and serviced air tickets for flyers at a significant savings for the airlines and value-add for the consumer. As a result, consumers have come to know, like, and trust their ticketing agents who skillfully book and service them in times of need.
Don't let American Airlines eliminate your choice as a consumer!
