Well worth keeping tabs on this as things develop. We know that fragmented business support makes it hard for business owners to find out how to access they need and where from
Knowing where to start is crucial and hopefully this new services will provide that vital signpost
It's been a week when the Government has focused on small businesses. On Small Business Saturday UK they have announced a package of measures to support small businesses.
On late and slow payments, it says:
"Tackle late payments – we have increased our enforcement of the existing payment performance reporting regulations, started work on secondary legislation in this parliamentary session requiring large companies to include payment performance headlines in their annual reports, announced a consultation in the coming months on new measures to go further in tackling late payments, and launched a new Fair Payment Code."
Gareth Thomas MP, the Minister for Services, Small Business and Exports said earlier this week, "This work demonstrates this Government’s determination alongside Good Business Pays to tackle late payments, meeting the commitments laid out in our manifesto and Plan for Small Business. Good Business Pays, the Fair Payment Code, and our future proposals will ensure more businesses are paid on time – increasing productivity, improving cash flow, and driving growth."

One of the priorities in our manifesto for small business growth published earlier this year was to improve access to business support, ending the fragmentation and lack of clarity that currently exisits. It is encouraging to see that the Government has announced a new Business Growth Service today, with a key objective to help businesses get quicker and easier access to support and advice ⬇️
📰 Last week Department for Business and Trade announced plans for the launch of a new Business Growth Service, aimed at supporting SMEs, in the first half of 2025. Find out more by following the link below:
The vision which has been outlined for a national service with local delivery at its core resonates deeply with the work and values of National Enterprise Network and its Members the majority of whom are ‘not for profit’ organisations, which ensures reinvestment into their operations to sustain and enhance the enterprise support they provide . For decades, we have played a pivotal role within communities, supporting successive generations of entrepreneurs and micro-businesses. The proposed approach aligns perfectly with what we have championed: accessible, trusted, and effective support embedded at the local level.
This announcement builds meaningfully on the conversations we’ve already had with DBT and it’s clear that the BGS initiative will provide a significant boost to the small business ecosystem. #microbusiness#smallbusiness#lifebloodofukeconomy
💪 Small businesses are imperative to our business ecosystem. They are rooted throughout our communities and provide local mastery that keeps our economy going.
"May is Small Business Month, designed to give a deserving nod and grow awareness to the 33 million small businesses operating in the United States, based on figures from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
But these acknowledgments to small businesses are more than gestures—they are necessities. When small businesses are thriving, so is the economy because it drives innovation and employs workers."
