Last Friday, COSBOA Chair Matthew Addison represented our members at the COAG Small Business Ministers meeting held in Melbourne to discuss support for Australia's 2.5 million small businesses and to kickstart a landmark National Small Business Strategy. The strategy aims to highlight the vital contributions of small businesses to our economy and communities. Ministers shared updates on small business initiatives, including insights from the 2024–25 Federal Budget. COSBOA spoke to the key issues affecting small businesses and calls for support needed from all levels of governments. We applaud Gov. Greg Abbott for directing state agencies to remove barriers to success for businesses and entrepreneurs, so Texas can remain the best state in the nation to live, work, and do business. In his letter to agency heads this week, Gov. Abbott said he instructed the Office of Small Business Assistance to identify and recommend for elimination rules, fees, and regulations that hinder the formation, operation, and growth of small businesses. These recommendations will be reviewed by the new Governor's Small Business Freedom Council, enhancing collaboration with the Texas business community and strengthening the process with Council members' expertise. This is an excellent step toward easing unnecessary or inefficient regulations on professionals and businesses.   We look forward to partnering with Gov. Greg Abbott and the #txlege during the upcoming session to create a transparent, efficient, and best-in-the-nation regulatory model for Texas, where all rules are reviewed on a regular basis through an objective process.
