Welcome to my Monday Morning Musings. I found it challenging to share just one resource I’ve learned from in the past week. So I’ve decided to curate a short list of what I’ve been listening to and one thing I’ll be applying from each. 1. I’ve been enjoying Dr. Tim Clark’s The Leader Factor podcast and especially his series on the dimensions of Psychological Safety followed by his current series on EQ. This episode on How to Build Contributor Safety stood out to me, especially the concept that “Autonomy is not an entitlement, it’s given in exchange for results and performance. Subsequently micromanagement is witholding autonomy when the person has a demonstrated track record of performance.” Check out the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/g2TEdWuA 2. I watched the replay of Len Pierre’s workshop on Navigating Indigenous Tokenism, Saviourism and Appropriation, which provided practical steps to identify and guard against the pitfalls/gaps that teams and organizations fall into that create unsafe practices and hinder reconciliation work. What really stood out to me was the take on Tyranny of Efficiency - the idea that we work in environments that are overly driven by deadlines, timelines and a sense of urgency to get projects completed, measured and reported publicly. Reconciliation and decolonization can’t exist in this structure! It’s a reminder to slow down, build time for reflection into my daily practice and remember that sustainable change takes time and Check out the full workshop here: https://lnkd.in/gQVFUrRx

Last week I asked for your 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲́𝘀. This week, I made a little video of the most popular kind... In Episode One of what I think will become a series, I'm looking at how 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 and other functions try to instil collective responsibility in employees. For some reason, it's often communicated using some very strange phrases that leave those not in that function, at best confused and at worst annoyed. It's all well-intentioned, but can come across like an attempt to transfer liability or just hand over work. 🤬 All the examples in the video are things I've actually seen used. 😳 I saved the best one for last. If you're not a German-speaker, the joke I refer to in the video is the phrase '𝘐𝘤𝘩 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘶𝘳 𝘉𝘢𝘩𝘯𝘩𝘰f' which literally means '𝘐 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰n'. It actually means '𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶t'. Which felt about right for that rail themed example. Let me know what you think of the video. If people like them, I'll do more. If not, I won't. —————————————————————————————— ✨I’m Christian, founder of Human Risk and if you like the thinking behind this, you'll love how I can help you make your Compliance program more effective. "Good Business is Good Safety". That is a direct quote from my special guest in this week's episode of the Leading Safely Podcast, the wonderful Bernie Doyle. Bernie spent over 30 years in operational leadership roles across a variety of industries. Whilst he constantly reminded me in our chat that he is not a safety professional, he is the current Chairman of the NSCA Foundation and the Chairman of APOSHO - the Asia Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organisation. In the space of Human and Organisational Performance, we talk about operational excellence and what that looks like. For me it's a place where safety is an integral element of every part of the business, and it isn't just an output or something a specific team on site do. Bernie and I seemed to be aligned in our thoughts. Why not check out the whole conversation via Spotify https://lnkd.in/ghTD7fhD, or anywhere else you get your good podcasts and then come back and share... What are your thoughts on good business verses good safety?

Vigil Mechanism - #22 - The critical SEBI Regulation for Corporate Governance Standards https://wp.me/p18MVb-2tC Vigil Mechanism #22 IMO is the most important in SEBI LODR - 17 to 27 and I find #22 is the least elaborated by SEBI. To quote from my voice message: Q: “It's easy to see 38 people in Tata Steel have been sacked because CoC they did not comply with. I don't think it is correct. What is very important, even in the football analogy there is a whistleblower who is the coach or the referee who blows the whistle and shows the red card. No, I don't agree with that. UQ I may add here “PM Modi comes down on non performers, asks ministers to retire any staffer in 'public interest' “ This is Theory X - managers use rewards and punishments to motivate employees. My voice says: Q: This is what is very important the individuals, any number of individuals who are very good, doing extremely well, and the other guys. I created a team of five. One for ethical and four for fiscal responsibility people. These people help each other to come to get the optimum level of performance. Can come by knowing, my principle of Return on Intangible where the numerator is action or inaction and the denominator THE intangible. Intangible is a powerhouse, for each person, a potter to the nuclear scientist. If you go through the synapses and neurons that work in any ordinary human being I mean the mathematics is not available that's what the neuro experts say which is more than that of the stars in the galaxy, for each person, for each janitor. Our capability, what we can do for anybody is something very great. And number one is establishing corporate culture. That is the most important thing that I like to stress. You cannot give a protection to a guy, with a whistle-blowing policy by telling that you can be protected if you go to the chairperson of the audit committee. It will not happen. And it had not happened, as in the case of Enron long after they had been caught red handed. UQ Peter Drucker, said that the purpose of an organization is to enable ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Give Gen Z their future. We are stuck with spot-jogging that tires you out but does not move forward. Take a change - SEBI?

"How do you get people to do what you want without pissing them off?" In our second episode of Speak to the Human, Sarah is joined by Christian Hunt. Christian brings to life critical risk factors for organisations by thinking about the humans that make or break whether these things actually work. Some of the topics we cover include: 🌟 Why and how consideration of what people actually *do* is sometimes missing in corporate strategies. 🌟 The counterproductive effect of making people do training that isn’t relevant to them. 🌟 Excellent examples ‘from the wild’ about attempts to influence behaviour – with greater or lesser success. I really enjoy appearing on other people's podcasts & this was no exception. Acteon's 'Speak To The Human' is a fabulous format and Sarah Abramson is a wonderful host. Obviously, I shouldn't say that listening to me is well worth your time, but...this is well worth your time! #Ethics #Compliance #BehaviouralScience #HumanRisk #Risk
