There ya have it folks... Just a friendly reminder...we have a hard time walking and texting, so why would we attempt to drive and text? Distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 4,308 lives in 2023. Texting is the most alarming distraction. Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed. You cannot drive safely unless the task of driving has your full attention. Any non-driving activity you engage in is a potential distraction and increases your risk of crashing. Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving. Needless to say...Using a cell phone while driving creates enormous potential for death.

April marks Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a critical time to reflect on the importance of focused and responsible driving. While cell phones are often highlighted as a primary source of distraction, it's essential to recognize that distractions also come in many other forms, such as eating, adjusting the radio, or even conversations with passengers. As professionals, we have a duty to lead by example, not only in our workplaces but also in our daily lives, including on the road. Let's use this month to commit to minimizing distractions, staying alert, and keeping our roads safe for everyone. Together, we can drive change and create a safer environment for all and let's encourage a culture of safety behind the wheel. #JustDrive

I recently upgraded my car to full self driving (FSD) and I find myself fascinated with the traffic light recognition capability. Not so much the green and red lights but I'm totally obsessed with the car's amber light decision-making process. Is it trying to get me to my destination as fast as possible with an eye to safety? Or is it trying to keep me as safe as possible with an eye to getting me there fast? In business as in life (and driving), our amber light behaviour reveals a lot about us. It's that in-between time when certainty is lost. When we recognize amber lights in our businesses, do we speed past them or do we slow down to consider the dilemmas they pose? It could be a weakness or a threat to our business that we're not willing to confront. Or a key relationship that could be in jeopardy because of something we did or something we said. When we recognize amber lights in our business or personal relationships, do we slow down to deal with them or try to speed past because it makes us uncomfortable? What is your own amber light behaviour? Has it changed with age and/or experience? #SWOT #intersectionality #ManagedIT
