Love this! Listening is a skill we all need to practice. When was the last time you listen without formulating a response? This is one of the rules I set in my training course

Not saying anything doesn’t mean you’re not engaged or interested in the conversation, or that you have nothing to contribute. Yet in academia (and many other fields), there can be an expectation to constantly speak up in meetings. I prefer to listen, take time to reflect on the insights being shared, and then contribute thoughtfully, rather than just in. Listening allows space for learning and deeper understanding, which can lead to more meaningful dialogue. Do you find yourself in environments where thoughtful silence is valued just as much as active participation?

Such a great message about the power of truly listening and engaging in conversation without distractions. Focusing on what the other person is saying opens the doors for deeper understanding, learning, and viewing topics from another’s perspective. Whether it’s a professional or personal relationship, giving a person your undivided attention is a powerful tool that pays off in dividends for the long run.
