The expansion of Northport's container terminal in Whangerei is one of 149 projects selected for fast tracking by the government, but it continues to face local opposition. Northport earlier applied for resource consent for a 250 metre wharf extension, an almost 12 hectare reclamation, and 1.7 million cubic metres of dredging. The expansion would also enable the integration of the port with KiwiRail's proposed Marsden Point spur, connecting rail and sea freight. Its previous applications were denied by independent commissioners who found while a new dedicated container terminal would bring economic and social benefits, it would have adverse effects on tāngata whenua, recreation, and public access to the coast. Local hapū Patuharakeke Te Iwi opposes the current Northport proposal because it will greatly reduce access to a local beach. The inclusion of the Northport expansion on the list does not ensure the project will proceed. The list highlights projects the government sees as valuable, but project owners must still submit an application, which needs approval from an expert panel. #Logistics #SupplyChain #FreightForwarding #GlobalLogistics #ShippingSolutions #Warehousing #Transportation #Cargo #SupplyChainManagement #LogisticsCompany #Freight #ImportExport #TradeLogistics #LogisticsManagement #LogisticsServices #InternationalShipping #3PL #LogisticsTech #SmartLogistic #EcoFriendlyLogistics

Board Chair, John Henderson, said: “These early-stage steps are in line with our long-established proactive approach to the port’s continuing evolution. The projects will benefit users across all sectors and sustain and encourage economic activity in Shetland.” The applications will be processed by Marine Scotland, a Scottish Government department, and will be in the public record for consultation rounds. Alexandria Port Authority Advances EGP 6 Billion Breakwater Expansion Shipping Arabia, September 2, 2024 — The Alexandria Port Authority has initiated a significant EGP 6 billion project to construct a series of breakwaters at the Grand Port of Alexandria, aiming to enhance the port’s capacity and infrastructure. Ahmed Hawash, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority, outlined that this effort is part of the expansive Grand Alexandria Port Plan, involving the addition of five breakwaters (Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern, and Central) across a total length of 6.9 kilometers. The project, expected to run for 18 months, has made substantial progress with the Eastern, Western, and Northern breakwaters, projected to complete by this fiscal year's end. The construction of the Central and Southern breakwaters will follow, involving unique challenges due to their mid-channel locations. Concurrent with the breakwaters, a significant land reclamation initiative in the western basin is nearing completion at 92%, with plans to commence similar efforts in the eastern basin. Additionally, the Alexandria Port Authority is constructing a multi-purpose terminal at Berth 100 in Dekheila Port, set to significantly boost the port’s handling capacity. This terminal, stretching 1,680 meters with a depth of 18 meters, is designed to accommodate general cargo and bulk commodities like wheat and corn, along with container operations. With a planned capacity of 1.5 million TEUs, the terminal will handle an estimated 3 to 4 million tons of grains and bulk cargo annually. Completion of the terminal is near, with the structure itself 99% complete and the associated rear yard for handling and storage 40% complete, all scheduled for full operation by December end. Furthermore, plans are underway to develop a clean dry bulk terminal at the new Dekheila Port, aimed at increasing grain handling and storage capacity by 6 to 7 million tons yearly. This terminal will feature a 1,150-meter-long berth and is expected to be operational by year-end. These projects are part of Alexandria Port’s strategic initiatives to enhance its operational capabilities and competitiveness in the region, positioning it as a modern, efficient maritime hub. Nice to know BUT, who won the Contract, was it even tendered? If the peculiar expertise of the Chinese is your reason, then how come Julius Berger built a 3rd Mainland Bridge that is still standing, and how come Hitech, a company whose major achievements are: a) your well-versed interest b) that it built the Eko Atlantic City on the Lagos bar beach which used to belong to all of us (until you took it over) gets to build your emergency "Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road? Shiaring Contracts is not like making bequests, or giving away family heirlooms. When you act "as"....you are acting in a representative capacity. #TellingTruths #SiphonTheSiphon https://lnkd.in/dscJezqa

Road and Freight Priorities 🚚🚗🚌 The Perth South West Metropolitan region is a vital hub for Perth’s port infrastructure and heavy industry, making a contemporary and safe #freight network essential to support the local and national economy. While the industrial road network has served the region well since its development in the 1950s, it now requires significant upgrades. Key road intersections need improvement, and staged widening of roads is necessary to ensure the industrial area remains efficient, ahead of the development of the #Westport project. Other key linkages are needed to ensure that Perth has an efficient freight network that meets the long-term needs of the region and prioritises safety for our communities. Plans to run Perth’s freight along an already congested freeway system for the first decades of Westport’s operation create an unsafe and unreasonable approach. The plan also fails to open up key development ready industrial estates in the south eastern corridor. The #AUKUS agreement is increasing the demand for efficient transportation of people and freight between key sites such as Garden Island and Henderson. Expanding capacity in this network is crucial. With Australia’s largest naval base accessed through a residential suburban road network, it’s essential to find a long-term solution. The Commonwealth must commit to funding the necessary road upgrades to meet its strategic aspirations for the region. The Kwinana Freeway faces daily congestion and is currently operating well beyond its capacity. While Mitchell Freeway saw widening projects funded at much lower volumes, the Kwinana Freeway widening is presently unfunded and overdue. It is essential to secure funding to fix this broken road network and support the growing demands of the region.

https://lnkd.in/g63ZyC4P So if the surge in traffic along Centenary Hwy was expected, why isn't the tunnel already underway, instead of building the Centenary bridge, which will only move the bottleneck to N side of river. Legacy Way tunnel (5km) took 4 yrs. Darra to Towong 15km will take ?
