Times Higher Education is emerging as the world's higher education digital transformation partner. These are just some of the initiatives we’re championing this year to support global higher education in its digital transformation journey.
Chief Global Affairs Officer, Times Higher Education (THE). Director General, Education World Forum. Creator of the World Academic Summit and convenor of the Global Sustainable Development Congress.
"Online learners, globally distributed, are arguably the most significant growth opportunity for higher education... But competition to attract them will be intense and international, and significant investment in online infrastructure and services will be needed." So says Prof. Nick Mount, academic director of the University of Nottingham Online in a new report from Higher Education Policy Institute and LearningMate, edited by Mary Curnock Cook. However, he adds "the investment that most UK higher education institutions have made into their online learning environments is a fraction of what has been invested in their physical campuses. Their investment strategies are likely to require rebalancing." Times Higher Education is emerging as the world's higher education digital transformation partner. 💡 Our pioneering global On-Line Learning Rankings, the world's first comprehensive evaluation system for a huge and largely unaccountable industry, will be launched this year. Find out how we'll do it, and how to take part here: https://lnkd.in/erAEYn3M 💡 Our unique Digital Maturity Index is designed to support universities and their tech partners in gaining insight into their institutional capacity and effectiveness in using digital technology to thrive in a changing landscape. Get involved here: https://lnkd.in/ectah9xD 💡 Our Digital Universities events series, in the UK, Europe, US and Asia, brings together higher education, industry and policy leaders working at the intersection of academic innovation and technology to reimagine universities in the digital age. The UK event is first, next month, at the University of Exeter. At the recent webinar "What's on the Horizon for International Study in the UK?" organised by Oxford International Education Group, key supporters of the International Higher Education Commission (IHEC), Rt Hon Chris Skidmore, Chair of the International Higher Education Commission, highlighted a critical issue: the need to rethink the model for UK higher education. It's not just focusing on financial aspects—it's about ensuring quality education for domestic and international students that yields high returns for all. Universities must ensure international students gain valuable degrees and integrate into the local job market, especially in emerging sectors like net zero and energy transition, offering pathways linking education to real-world skills and high-quality employment. The government should improve collaboration with industry to create pathways for domestic and international students, ensuring preparedness for future jobs and driving innovation and growth in key sectors.
