3 Reasons Why You're Still Underpaid as a Writer (And How to Fix It) Let’s get real: You’re probably underpaid, undervalued, & maybe even ignored. → It’s NOT because clients are evil masterminds —they’re just reacting to how you present yourself. I know, I know. It sounds harsh. But hear me out… If you’ve ever wondered why clients are paying you less than you deserve, here’s why: 🔸 You’re blending in, not standing out If you're just another writer offering generic content, you're like a fast-food joint in a world of restaurants. → Clients want a VIP experience, not a quick bite. Pro Tip: Niche down and own it. → Whether it’s tech writing, SaaS copy, or creative storytelling — be the go-to expert in that field. → Authorities charge more. 𝑬𝒙𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆 I'm a zoology student. But also a go-to expert in tech content writing. 🔸 Your Online Presence is a Ghost Town No LinkedIn profile? Outdated portfolio? → Clients won’t come knocking if they can’t find you. Quick Fix: → Clean up your LinkedIn. → Build a portfolio that shows off your best work (not everything you've written since 2010). 𝑬𝒙𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆 I'm on multiple platforms - Medium, Upwork, Freelancer, Quora. And, clients find me on these platforms. 🔸 You’re Delivering Words, Not Results If you’re just writing for the sake of writing, you’re missing the point. → Clients want results—more traffic, higher conversions, and engaging content that drives action. 𝑬𝒙𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆 I ranked 7 websites & helped clients grow. That's why I earn 30k a month as a college student. 📌 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹, Jasmine? FOLLOW me! Simple moral Go to my profile → slap that 'bell' 🔔 icon. Why, Jasmine? Because I value your time. A few years ago, I was just another freelance writer trying to get noticed in a crowded market. I had the skills, but so did thousands of others. So, how was I going to stand out? One day, it hit me: I needed to leverage the very thing I was good at writing to boost my own visibility. I’d spent so much time helping clients grow their brands, I’d forgotten to work on my own. That’s when I made a shift. I started by creating content aimed directly at the type of clients I wanted to attract. Instead of generic blog posts, I wrote about specific topics my ideal clients cared about. For SaaS businesses, I focused on how persuasive writing could increase conversions. For startups, I wrote about how good copy could help them find their voice. Before long, my inbox was filling up. Clients weren’t just asking for work they were already sold on my skills because they saw my expertise in my own content. But I didn’t stop there. I learned about SEO and started optimizing my content so it would show up when potential clients searched for terms in my niche. It wasn’t long before my posts started ranking higher, and I was being noticed by people I’d never even heard of. I also reached out to collaborate with other writers and brands. I pitched guest posts to well known sites in my industry, and soon, my name was being mentioned in bigger circles. I was no longer chasing clients they were coming to me. The biggest lesson? Storytelling. I began sharing my own journey my struggles, wins, and lessons as a freelance writer. It was raw, honest, and authentic. And it resonated with my audience. Suddenly, I wasn’t just another faceless writer for hire I was a relatable person, someone they trusted. The result? My personal brand grew, clients began referring me, and my business flourished all because I used the very thing I was already doing (writing) to build my brand. If you’re a freelance writer, don’t overlook the power of your own writing. Use it to create content that speaks to your audience, optimize it for visibility, and tell your story. Before long, you’ll see the difference it makes. #FreelanceWriting #ContentMarketing #WritingJourney #Storytelling #BrandVisibility #WritingCommunity

I created an online course. On creating a content portfolio for beginners and newbies to content writing and freelancing. My goal was to answer frequently asked questions on creating a portfolio. As well as to provide context on a writer's role in the larger framework of marketing for a business. I've shared multiple options to create a writing portfolio and explained the pros and cons of each. This is just the start of more helpful content as I bring my years of experience and my own brand of doing good work in marketing to newbies with questions. Please share this with your peers or anyone who needs it. Thanks! #contentwriting #freelancewriting
