AR vs. Robots: The Future of Spine Surgery! 🔬 A new study from the Hospital for Special Surgery reveals groundbreaking results comparing robotic-assisted navigation (RAN) and augmented reality (AR) in spinal surgery. Both technologies deliver near-perfect precision for placing pedicle screws—99.6% for RAN and 98.7% for AR. RAN uses robotic arms and GPS-like navigation, while AR overlays 3D images onto the surgeon’s view via a headset. These innovations are revolutionizing spinal surgery, reducing radiation exposure and boosting safety for patients and surgeons alike. ➡️ Watch daily for more AI-generated Exponential Africa News! #SingularitySA #SingularityUSouthAfrica #AR #Robotics #MedicalInnovation

Here our latest paper "An Ultrasound-Guided System for Autonomous Marking of Tumor Boundaries During Robot-assisted Surgery," just published in the IEEE Transactions on Medical Robotics and Bionics! 🎉 This work explores how to automate the process of marking tumor boundaries with high precision during robotic surgery, with the final goal of improving surgical outcomes by minimizing damage to healthy tissue. This is a significant leap forward in the application of ultrasound and autonomy in the field of robotic surgery. 📄 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eqH3Hj-V 🎥 Check out the video below to see the system in action! A big thank you to Intuitive Surgical and the dVRK community for their continued support! Well done to all my collaborators: Nils Marahrens, Dominic Jones, Nikita Murasovs, and Shekhar Biyani #dvrk #roboticsurgery #davinci #ultrasound #tumorboundaries #medicalrobotics #healthcareinnovation

https://lnkd.in/eNch3SBC How does a design team make decisions when their mission is to disrupt the status quo and increase access to robotic surgery? Jiqi Cheng, Ph.D., Senior Principal R&D Engineer for Surgical Robotics, has been central to this process from the earliest days of developing the Hugo Robotic-Assisted Surgery system. He shares his insights about why the team decided to create a modular system that could move between ORs and about the critical role surgeon collaborators played in the process. https://lnkd.in/eNch3SBC #Medtronic #HugoRAS #RoboticAssistedSurgery #SurgicalRobotics

🚀𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲💉. Robotics and AI are ushering in a new era of surgery. We will see how AI will change the surgical processes over time. Horizon Surgical System demoed their new surgery robot called Polaris, which will deliver AI-enabled autonomous robotic eye surgery for patients with cataracts. Purpose: 💡The primary goal of Polaris is to automate cataract surgery, reducing human error, and complications and improving outcomes for patients. Features: ➡️The system has its own visualization system so it can use real-time imaging data of the patient's eye. ➡️The system has a set of surgical tools needed for the surgery and can grasp those tools where needed. ➡️This technology can react to eye movements within 20 to 30 milliseconds, ensuring high precision and stability during procedures. The Preceyes Surgical System also uses Robotic surgeries in Urology and other field. The surgery involves a joystick and foot pedals and allows a Surgeon 10 times more precision than a human eye.
