The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) is going to launch a comprehensive report, "Rights of People and State of Flood Rehabilitation in Sindh," followed by an essential panel discussion titled "Human Rights at Risk: Addressing Flood-Related Challenges and Strategies for Upcoming Monsoon Seasons in Sindh." The event will take place on 6th June 2024 (Thursday) at Mehran Hotel, Karachi. This report, based on extensive research in Khairpur Mirs, Dadu, and MirpurKhas districts, highlights the urgent need for accelerated rehabilitation efforts to restore fundamental human rights. In the wake of the devastating 2022 floods, millions in Sindh still struggle with inadequate basic services such as drinking water, housing, education, and healthcare. Join us as we present critical findings on the current state of flood rehabilitation, discuss strategies to protect human rights during future monsoon seasons and collaborate with experts, community leaders and policymakers to drive meaningful change. This event is a crucial step towards ensuring the protection and promotion of human rights in Sindh, especially for those impacted by natural disasters. Let’s come together to advocate for a safer, more resilient future for all. #SHRCReport #FloodRehabilitation #HumanRights #Sindh #MonsoonSeason #KhairpurMirs #Dadu #Mirpurkhas #KarachiEvent #MehranHotel #SindhHumanRights #CommunityLeaders #PolicyMakers #NaturalDisasters #Advocacy #ResilientFuture

This example from Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, demonstrates the importance of #RiskCommunication in making quick decisions during any kind of hazard. PIN-led Pratibaddha project, supported by the EU, has been advocating for the activation of locally-led landslide and multi-hazard #EarlyAction. By establishing Viber groups, we have created effective two-way risk communication channels that connect local communities, forecasting agencies, and local government stakeholders. This initiative has significantly closed the gaps between the government and vulnerable communities. This is one of the good examples how we support vulnerable at risk people during #Monsoon2024, and their elected representatives to #ActEarly and #SaveLives and livelihoods. By fostering strong connections and timely information sharing, we are enhancing systems of #CommunityResilience and #Preparedness.

In Bangladesh, millions of villagers still dream of having access to clean water at their fingertips. However, BURO Bangladesh has made that dream a reality for 595 households in Puran Baushia, a village in Munshigonj district, with access to piped clean water. With the installation of a piped water system, which has been ongoing for more than 15 years, 595 households now have access to fresh, arsenic-free water delivered right to their doorsteps. This transformative project, currently implemented by BURO Bangladesh and supported by the World Bank, the Social Development Foundation (SDF), and the people of the community, is the result of strong collaboration between local communities and development partners. In a region where clean water has long been scarce, this project has been addressing a critical need for safe drinking water and improving public health and quality of life. #BUROBangladesh #Microfinance #RuralpipedWatersupply

Bangladesh is currently observing a 22-day fishing ban to protect Mother Hilsa—one of four annual bans implemented in various tenure across the country. These conservation efforts are vital for replenishing fish stock, but the impact on artisanal fisherfolk is often overlooked while social safety nets are insufficient. Law enforcement excesses, corruption, lack of recognition of women in the sector are ultimately driving fisherfolk families deeper into a devastating spiral of poverty and deprivation, gender-based violence included. Fisherfolks’ voices are not heard in the decision-making table, and their rights are not being protected in the policies. We advocate for amendments where the policies will secure fisherfolks rights along with the fish, as they are the provider of a core component of our traditional diet. #FishingBan #Water_You_Doing #FisherfolksRights

Reflections from My Recent Travels to Kashmir, KPK, and Punjab Last week, I embarked on a journey through the beautiful regions of Kashmir, KPK, and Punjab. The natural beauty and rich culture of these areas are truly captivating. However, my travels also highlighted a sobering reality: the persistent struggles of the poor communities in these regions and our often troubling relationship with nature. Despite the potential and charm of these areas, the socio-economic conditions for many remain unchanged. Moreover, I couldn't help but notice how human actions continue to impact the environment adversely. The pristine landscapes are marred by pollution and neglect, reminding us that we often humiliate nature instead of honoring and preserving it. This experience was a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by underprivileged communities and the urgent need for sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Witnessing these conditions firsthand has deepened my commitment to contributing to initiatives that aim to improve the lives of those in need while also protecting our natural surroundings. I urge my network to reflect on how we can all play a part in bettering the lives of underprivileged communities and respecting our environment. Whether through volunteering, donations, or simply raising awareness, every action counts. Let’s strive to create a future where humanity and nature coexist harmoniously. Let's come together to make a difference. #TravelDiaries #SocialImpact #SustainableDevelopment #EnvironmentalStewardship #Kashmir #KPK #Punjab

Rural economy is an important part of Pakistan’s economy. Rural transformation is crucial for Pakistan, where app 63% (146 million) of the population resides in rural areas. The agriculture sector employs nearly half of the rural workforce despite 63% of the rural households being landless. On the other hand, non-farm activities contribute more than half of the total rural income, indicating they are an important source of income, especially for landless poor rural households. The envisages promoting Rural Enterprise & Productivity (REAP) for uplifting rural economy. I am proud to represent a rural constituency from Narowal District. #RuralEconomy #Pakistan #Narowal
