Half of parents say their children haven’t visited a dentist by age three, despite official guidance being to go when first milk teeth appear. That’s according to new research from Denplan (part of Simplyhealth), published today in the Denplan Oral Health Survey 2024. The annual survey is of over 5,000 UK adults – making it one of the largest surveys of dental health habits in the country. The survey found that parents would welcome further education on oral healthcare habits, with 86% agreeing that good habits should be taught in childhood to improve health for life. Almost four in ten parents (37%) think the government should implement oral health education in schools to help tackle the current children’s dental crisis. School-supervised toothbrushing would be welcomed by almost half of parents (49%). Catherine Rutland, dentist and our clinical director said: “Unfortunately, many parents think “they’re only baby teeth so there’s no need to go to the dentist,” however baby teeth can stay with us until we’re around 12 years old. Currently tooth decay is still the number one reason children aged 6-10 are admitted to hospital, which is deeply saddening.” Find out more about the oral health habits and attitudes of Great Britain in the report: https://lnkd.in/gVz4kgma

Empowering Smiles from the Start: Early Oral Health Education Did you know that teaching kids about dental care from a young age can set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles? It's true! By introducing simple habits like brushing and flossing early on, we can help prevent common dental issues down the road. Why is this important? Well, good oral health isn't just about having a nice smile. It's also linked to overall health and well-being. When kids learn how to take care of their teeth and gums, they're less likely to experience problems like cavities and gum disease later in life. That's why it's crucial to start teaching oral health habits as soon as possible. Simple steps like brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting the dentist regularly can make a big difference in a child's oral health journey. So let's work together to give every child the tools they need for a lifetime of healthy smiles! #OralHealth #HealthySmiles #DentalCare #StartEarly

Dental sealants are a simple yet effective way to prevent cavities. Is your school making them accessible for your children? Here’s why they’re effective and how schools can incorporate sealant programs into their oral health initiatives: ▶ What Are Dental Sealants? Thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of molars, sealants block out bacteria and food particles that cause decay. They’re quick to apply and provide long-term cavity protection. ▶ Why Sealants Matter Molars, where most decay occurs, benefit significantly from sealants, reducing the risk of cavities by up to 80% in the first two years and continuing protection for several years after. Sealants help avoid costly and painful treatments by preventing decay before it starts. ▶ Ideal for School-Aged Children Sealants are most beneficial when applied to children’s permanent molars as soon as they come in, usually around ages 6 and 12. Schools are the perfect setting for this, as many students can receive sealants during this critical window. How Schools Can Integrate Sealant Programs ▶ Partner with Dental Health Providers: Collaborate with local dental clinics or public health programs to offer on-site sealant applications, making preventive care accessible for all students. ▶ Combine with Education: Use the sealant program as an opportunity to educate students on the importance of cavity prevention and maintaining oral hygiene. ▶ Promote Equity: Target schools in underserved communities where access to preventive dental care may be limited. School-based sealant programs help bridge the gap in oral health equity. ▶ Engage Parents: Provide parents with information on the benefits of sealants and offer consent forms to encourage participation, ensuring widespread impact. Dental sealants are a simple yet impactful way to protect children from cavities. By integrating sealant programs, schools can play a crucial role in preventive dental care, setting students up for healthier, cavity-free smiles. #schooloralhealth #oralhealtheducation

When should you ask dental patients come back in? 🤔 Well, it depends! Patients should generally come in for routine check ups and cleanings every 6 months. However, some individuals may need to visit more frequently, such as every 3-4 months, depending on their oral health risk factors and specific dental issues. It’s best to consult with your patients on a case-by-case basis and provide personalized recommendations. The quality of dental cleaning and preventative products you use also play a role in its effectiveness. That’s why our Wonderful products are FDA-approved and only made with the highest-quality ingredients right here in the USA. Follow for more dental health tips and education!

Keeping your mouth healthy is important, but what if gripping a toothbrush or floss is tricky? Don't fret! There are ways to maintain a sparkling smile even with dexterity challenges. * Electric toothbrushes: Electric toothbrushes take the pressure off (literally!). They can be much easier to maneuver and still provide a great clean. * Bigger, better grips: Look for toothbrushes with wider, easier-to-hold handles. You can even adapt your own brush by attaching a loop of thick rubber band for a better grip. * Flossing alternatives: If floss is frustrating, consider floss holders or interdental brushes. These tools help you clean between teeth without the need for complex finger maneuvers. * Don't forget the dentist! Regular dental checkups and cleanings are key. Your dentist can recommend the best tools and techniques for your specific situation. Our vote is for dental wellness! 🙌😄 We’re heartened that the major political parties are committed to improving dental care in the UK. In particular, we're 100% behind the greater focus on preventive care, which is what Well:o's all about. Sharing a broadly similar vision for oral health, the Labour, Conservative & Liberal Democrat manifestos lay out ideas that: ✔️ Promise to address the dental access crisis by unlocking more dental appointments ✔️ Acknowledge the need to rebuild UK dentistry over the long-term, making reforms to the dental contract ✔️ Commit to the smiles of the next generation ✔️ Will encourage dentists in underserved areas We hope whoever’s in charge come July 5th remains committed to expanding undergraduate training places. Not just for dentists, but for dental therapists and hygiene professionals, as outlined in 2023’s NHS Long-term Workforce Plan. Because although the obvious answer to the UK’s dental access crisis is to increase the number of dentists, we believe that more accessible preventive care is the game-changer. Central to this is the empowerment of dental hygienists and therapists to operate at their full scope of practice. #DentalCare #PreventiveCare #DentalHygiene #OralHealth #UKHealthcare
